Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

By using the student response tool, Kahoot! in my lesson, this will give an opportunity to several different
students to learn in several different ways. Students who are more shy and less vocal in classroom settings
may feel more comfortable when completing an activity on Kahoot! since their participation is through a
mobile device. Students with ADHD can stay more focused using Kahoot! by incorporating the flashcard game
which is also extremely fun and engaging for all students. ESOL students can use manipulatives like base ten
blocks if a physical representation of numbers is easier to learn and comprehend then a more visual
approach. There is multiple means of representation, engagement, and action and expression in Kahoot!
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Everyone will gather together as a class on the front carpet. The teacher will lead a review session on
multiples of 10 by using the base 10 blocks. The teacher should practice during the review session holding up
a certain number of rods, for example - ten rods and have the class say outload how many are there, then the
teacher should take one rod away and have the class say the right number outload again. The teacher can
practice doing this by having the students raise their hand to answer instead of shouting outload as well. After
the review, the teacher will have all the students go back to their individual seats. The students are asked to
create their own personal number line from 0-100 using multiples of 10. The teacher will have the students
start at a certain number on their time line, for example – 60. The teacher should instruct the class to move
backwards by subtracting 10 and move forward by adding 10. This process will be repeated until every
student has a number line from 0 to 100 by multiples of 10. Following this opening activity, the teacher will
introduce Kahoot! and the lesson they are completing using this student response tool. This activity will show
the teacher who is and who is not truly understanding this content.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During the Student Response Tool, Kahoot! the students will all be at their own desks with mobile devices
where they can get the access code from their teacher, create a username, and start competing for first place
against their classmates. The teacher will be at her own desk where she is administering the game and
watching how each student progresses on their device. The game keeps score of who answers right and the
fastest, so the teacher is able to observe who shows good understanding of the content. This ten-minute
activity has 9 questions.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Within the Student Response Tool, Kahoot! there is a display of immediate feedback of which student(s) are
answering each question correctly. This display shows both the teacher and the students who is
understanding and who is not understanding the material.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the Student Response Tool activity, Kahoot! is complete, the teacher will be able to look at the data and
see which students did well, which students are progressing, and which students do not know the material. As
an additional activity, the teacher will have the students create flashcards from 0-100 with multiples of 10 on
each card. Once each student has created their flashcards, then as a class they will play a game. The teacher
will write a number on the board, in the front of the class so everyone can see, and the students have to race
to see who can hold the correct flashcard up on their air. This activity creates an appropriate competitive
environment for students to be engaged and learning in a fun way.
How will the data be used?
The collected data the teacher gathers from the Student Response Tool, Kahoot! will be used in order to
differentiate future instruction. The correct answer to the questions and data collected will show the teacher
who exceeds in understanding the content and who will need a little extra practice before moving onto the
next standard.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My personal learning goal for this activity is to help any and all students understand the multiples of tens. I
hope that incorporating the student response tool, Kahoot! into my lesson will create a thrilling and fun
environment for students to be able to learn in an appropriate competitive game.

Student Response and Assessment Tools
All activities within this lesson are designed to impact student learning! After the lesson is complete, I hope
everyone exceeds in understanding the content by each student being able to subtract multiples of 10 in the
range of 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range of 10-90. Throughout the lesson, content is broken down in
multiple ways to help diverse learners. The activities chosen are engaging, fun, and will keep the students
interested since it is a game competing for first place! Throughout one activity, the students are able to
visually represent multiples of ten which helps any student that needs to see the difference in value. This
lesson could be extended by bringing in a fun, edible manipulative for them to practice with. Being cautious of
allergies, the teacher can bring in skittles, m&ms, reeses pieces, and any other form of candy that has
multiple small pieces to be able to count and play with. The students can then create multiples of tens in a
different physical manipulative and reward themselves when finished. Another technology tool that could
have enhanced this lesson would be using the interactive white board. The teacher could create ten frames
and the students have to come up to add and take away chips from the frame, for what is necessary in order
to complete the number sentence.
