Chapter 2
METHOD

This chapter includes the presentation of the research design, the respondent of
the study, sampling design, data gathering and data analysis used in the study.

Type of Research
This study is a Quantitative Descriptive research. According to USC

libraries Quantitative methods emphasize objective measurements and the statistical,

mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires, and

surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational techniques.

Quantitative research focuses on gathering numerical data and generalizing it across

groups of people or to explain a particular phenomenon.

Respondents
This study was chosen for its purpose is to trace the graduates where
they are now If the skills they learned are being used, if they are working or still studying.
Using the survey questionnaire to the respondents was done to gather pieces of
information. The study was done inside and outside of the school. The number of the
respondents of the study is 15 from the graduates of 12-Philippians and 12-Thessalonians.

Instruments
In this study, the researchers use Survey Questionnaire for Data

Gathering. The researchers used purposive sampling. In addition, these instruments will

guide the researcher/s study. Some researcher uses this instruments but some use the

survey for it is the best way to enhance your critical thinking and analytical thinking.

Based on the study, by making your first move to create your own research is to identify

the number of respondents and the. From that point, the researcher/s avoids mistakes,

and the presentation of data must be related to the researcher/s study.

Data Gathering Procedures

This study was conducted in and out of Dolores Stand Alone Senior High

School. The respondents for this study are the Graduate students of 12 – Philippians

and 12 - Thessalonians. The collection of data is for academic purpose only, in that

situation we can avoid any misunderstandings. By allowing permission to survey and

observe their actions in social media, a focus group discussion was done analyzing the

gathered data from interviews and observations to develop a conclusion. Collecting or

gathering data must be valid and presentable to everyone. If the researcher avoids

mistakes then the study becomes significant to aid future beneficiaries.

The first step is to identify the number of respondents and the respondents have
Their time to answer. From that point, the researchers must avoid mistakes, and the
presentation of data must be related to the researchers study.

CONSTRUCTION

The researcher submitted the first draft of the questionnaires to the research
Adviser for the comments and suggestions then the other two professional teachers to
ensure items would be suited to the study.

VALIDATION

The results of revision served as the basis for its improvement. The researchers

Go to the principal office to get a letter to allow the researchers to collect a data from
the respondents in Dolores Stand Alone Senior High School. 15 copies of the survey
questionnaires were reproduced for the target respondents.

ADMINISTRATION AND RETRIEVAL OF INSTRUMENT

The survey questionnaires were distributed to the student during

school days at DSASHS to ensure that the respondents are present on that day. The
researchers briefly explain to the respondents the aim and objectives of this study.

Data Analysis

The following statistical measures were used to interpret and analyze the data Gathered.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the results, analyses and interpretation of the data. The
results were presented following the sequence of the problems stated in the first
chapter.

The Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers’ Level of Problem Solving Skills (Title

must be based on your STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM )
Minimum number of tables is based on the number of RESEARCH QUESTIONS
IN THE STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM.

Table 1 shows the frequency distribution of the respondents’ level of problem

solving skills in general. It can be gleaned from the table that most or 43% of the
respondents belong to the proficient level, 10% to the exemplary level and 23%to the
developing level. These data reveal that majority of the respondents were able to do
the problem solving tasks. This suggests that they are generally equipped with
knowledge to solve mathematical verbal problems.
Table 1
Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers’ Level of Problem Solving Skills

Score F % Level
84-100 4 10% Exemplary
63-83 17 43% Proficient
42-62 9 23% Developing
21-41 6 15% Emerging
0-20 4 10% Learning
Total 40 100%

CHAPTER 4
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presents the culmination of the study. It covers the summary of the
research process, summary of the findings, the conclusion derived and the
recommendation offered.

Summary
The study sought to answer the following questions: Re-Write your STATEMENT
OF THE PROBLEM )
Summary of Findings
Based on the collected and interpreted data, the researcher obtained the
following significant findings:
(Sample ways on how to write FINDINGS)
1. Majority of the respondents were able to do problem posing tasks but had
difficulty posing accurate Math verbal problems. The Pre-Service Math
teachers:

( On Problem solving )

1.1 are proficient in the application of the formula for the area of two-
dimensional figures, application of the 4 fundamental operations,
translation of verbal problems to Math equation and solving
simultaneously 2 equations in 2 unknown.
1.2 do not have sufficient skills in analyzing problems which do not
have exact formula but rather require analytical skills in order to
arrive at the correct answer.

Conclusion
The following are conclusions:
(Sample)
1. The pre-service Mathematics teachers are generally equipped with knowledge in
solving verbal problems especially that require definite formula or step to follow
but they have limited capabilities in solving non-routine verbal problems; are not
much equipped with knowledge to pose accurate mathematical verbal problems;
have limited experiences in posing verbal problems in their respective programs
thus, resulting to limited capabilities in posing their own relevant problems.

Recommendation
This study offers the following recommendations:

1. A review of the BSE major in Mathematics program must be done to determine

the parity in developing the two major skills a pre-service Mathematics teacher
must develop.

2. Further researches maybe conducted: to determine other factors contributing to

limited capabilities of students to pose problems; to determine a more
appropriate teaching strategies to enhance problem posing skills (experimental);
to determine the readiness of pre-service mathematics teachers to be
implementers of the new curriculum in the basic education.
