GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The proposed project “ PROJEK PEMBINAAN JALAN TONGOD - PINANGAH, PAKEJ 3 : 16KM,
SABAH ” is located towards the North of Pinangah. The existing road is a gravel road with an average width of
5m.

2.0 OVERVIEW

Proposed road is situated on the North of Pinangah in the internal of Sabah in the district of Sandakan. The
Proposed road follow an existing gravel road passing through local kampung such as Kampong Maliau and
local kampung school and junctions leading to others town and district like Sook, Pensiangan District.

3.0 PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROJECT SITE

Travel by road is possible from Pinangah to Sook then to Keningau town which is part of the Internal Road
which links to the state Capital Kota Kinabalu. In its stride, the road also leads to the Kampungs like Kg
Bibilud, Kg Takulong and Kg Alitang. This Proposed road, while following the existing road, will cross over
river like Sungai Tongod and other small tributary rivers.

4.0 BRIEF OF THE PROPOSED ROAD PROJECT

The proposed road is proposed to upgrade the existing road into single carriageway road including drainage
structure, geotechnical structure, road furniture, road traffic sign and road marking.

SCOPE OF WORKS

1.0 SCOPE OF WORKS OF THE PROPOSED ROAD

1.1 Main Road

(a) Road Geometry And Cross Section

The Contractor is to construct JKR-R3 Standard road with single carriageway condition as
shown in the horizontal and vertical road alignment layout and typical road cross-section
drawing and all in accordance with the Specification.

Road cross section detail is summarized as the following:-

i) Road lane width is 3.0m on road carriageway width of 6m.


ii) Road marginal strip width is 0.25m.
iii) Road shoulder width is 2.5m.

(b) Road Pavement

The Contractor is to construct the following flexible pavement structure all in accordance with
the Specification and as shown in the drawing:-

i) 50mm thick Asphaltic Concrete Wearing Course Grade ACW20.


ii) Tack Coat at Grade RS1 or equivalent.
iii) 50mm thick Asphaltic Concrete Binder Course Grade ACB28.
iv) Prime Coat at Grade MC70 or equivalent.
v) 300mm thick Road Base.
vi) 200mm thick Sub Base.
vii) Sub grade at minimum CBR value of 5%.
viii) 100mm thick of Sub Base material on Shoulder.
ix) Earth Shoulder..

1.2 Minor Access Road

(a) Road Geometry And Cross Section

The Contractor is to construct JKR-R2 Standard road with single carriageway condition as
shown in the horizontal and vertical road alignment layout and typical road cross-section
drawing and all in accordance with the Specification.

Road cross section detail is summarized as the following:-

i) Road lane width is 2.50m on road carriageway width of 5.0m.


ii) Road shoulder width is 1.5m.

(b) Road Pavement

The Contractor is to construct the following flexible pavement structure all in accordance with
the Specification and as shown in the drawing:-

i) 50mm thick Asphaltic Concrete Wearing Course Grade ACW20.


ii) Tack Coat at Grade RS1 or equivalent.
iii) 50mm thick Asphaltic Concrete Binder Course Grade ACB28.
iv) Prime Coat at Grade MC70 or equivalent.
v) 300mm thick Road Base.
vi) Sub grade at minimum CBR value of 5%.
vii) Earth Shoulder.

1.3 Drain

The Contractor is to construct new lined drain comprise of the following drain type as shown in the
drawing and all in accordance to the Specification :-

i) Channel Drain Type A


ii) Channel Drain Type B
iii) Embankment Toe Drain Type 2
iv) Interceptor drain

1.4 RC. Sump

The Contractor is to construct new RC. Sump to the location as shown in the drawing and all in
accordance to the Specification :-

i) RC. Sump Type S1


ii) RC. Sump Type S2
iii) RC. Sump Type S3

1.5 Culvert

In providing good drainage system along the proposed road, numerous culverts have been allocated at
specific locations as shown in the drawing and all in accordance to the Specification. The Contractor is
to construct the difference sizes of culverts in accordance to the Drawing.
The Contractor is to construct temporary bypasses and diversions for the construction of new pipe and
box culverts. Along existing roads, the construction of diversions shall be carried out such that the
Contractor shall adequately adhere to all traffic safety measures.

1.6 Culvert Inlet/Outlet Structure

The Contractor is to construct the culvert inlet/outlet structure type to the location as shown in the
drawing and all in accordance to the Specification.

1.7 Gabion At the End of Drain/Culvert

The Contractor is to construct gabion at the end of drain or culvert to the location as directed and
confirmed by the S.O.

1.8 Demolition/Removal or Relocation of Existing Structures

The Contractor is to remove or relocate existing structure as stipulated in the bill of quantities and as
shown in the drawing all in accordance to the Specification.

1.9 Road Furniture

The Contractor is to provide fabrication, installation and erection of the following road furniture as
shown in the drawing or as directed by the S.O. all in accordance to the Specification.

i) Guardrail with steel post


ii) Route Marker
iii) Post Delineator
iv) Median Delineator

1.10 Road Traffic Signage, Markings and Other Safety Devices

The Contractor is to provide fabrication, installation and the erection of all road signage, markings and
other safety devices to be constructed at strategic location along the proposed road and junction as
shown on the drawings and described in the bills of quantities.
