ANALYSIS PAPER

Transfer of learning is the process of applying learning from one situation to


another—whether that's across subject areas or from the classroom to the "real
world."

Whether you’re a student or working professional looking to keep your skills


current, the importance of being able to transfer what you learn in one context to an
entirely new one cannot be overstated. Of course, the goal of any learning or
training is to eventually be able to apply it in real-world situations.

It's critical for students to be able to use their knowledge in a variety of


situations and contexts, but how can teachers facilitate that transfer?

Last July 1, 2019, we observed the teaching demonstration of Teacher Noel


and Teacher Laisa, our responsibility is to check whether they able to utilize or
facilitate the transfer of learning inside the classroom and we able to answered it
through a step by step observing to all their strategy used in teaching and those
factors affecting transfer of learning

Teacher Laisa and Teacher Noel meets some good factors in transfer of
learning, they able discussed their lesson specifically than generalizing it since
when setting learning goals, it’s better to be specific rather than general so you’ll be
able to measure your progress as you go along and establishing clear learning goals
will give you a better understanding of what you’re trying to get out of your learning
and how you might later transfer that knowledge and apply it in your work or
personal life.
Teacher Noel and Teacher Laisa used learning media which better improve
transfer of learning since using pictures, narration, and text can help prevent
cognitive resources from becoming overloaded and improve learning transfer. One
study found that learners who used relevant visuals were able to retain more
information and scored higher on transfer tests than those who used only text.

But unfortunately, most of the important factors to promote transfer of learning


were not enhanced successfully like making learning social and focusing to the
relevance of the lesson to learner's life. Making the learning social is one of the
relevant ways to improve learning transfer since this gives you the opportunity to
explain what you’re learning in your own words and apply your knowledge to new
situation and vice versa. Research also shows that collaborative learning promotes
engagement and benefits long-term retention.

The teachers should also focus the relevance of the learning or the lesson
itself since when learning is relevant, students are able to connect what they’re
learning to what they already know and build new neural connections and long-term
memory storage.

So if you want you’re learning to be engaging and to be able to remember it


in other contexts, it’s important to establish relevance early on. Think about how
they might apply what learning today in their future job or everyday life and then try
to tie it to some of their short or long-term goals.

Increasingly, transfer of learning is being discussed with a meta-cognitive


point of view. So, learning from learning is perhaps more important than learning
itself! Sounds strange but what it means is to allow learners to think about learning
and therefore construct their own connections between what has been learnt in the
past versus what is being learnt in the present. It is about being aware of your
learning and taking control of the same. In that sense, when learners manage their
own learning and are more self-aware, they increase the accessibility of their
learning to be applied in situations that occur in the future and help themselves in
transferring their learning! In this context, our role as future educator professionals
changes to helping learners learn meta-cognition skills and strategies.
