The diagram shows the life stages of a growing salmon, a kind of large fish.

Salmon eggs are laid between the small stones below the reeds in a slow moving upper river for
approximately 5-6 months. From eggs they develop up to 3-8 cm and called fry. The fry moves to the
lower river where the flow is fast and stayed there for approximately 4 years until they become smolt.
Smolt measures 12-15 cm and they can be found in the open sea. After approximately 5 years, the smolt
can grow up to 70-76 cm in length. By this time, they can now be called as adult salmon.

Adult salmon can now mate for reproduction. From the open sea, the female adult salmon bearing eggs
will be travelling back to the upper river with a sluggish stream of water to lay eggs. The eggs will hatch
again after approximately 5-6 months and the cycle repeats.
