INDOOR CETLING CONCEALEI' FANCOIL UNTT

GENERALDESCRIPTION
The ceiling concealed fancoil units are of low noise, light weight, compact and low height
construction. It is specially designed to cater for today's low ceiling height residence, offices,
light commercialapplicationsand new or existingbuilding air-conditioning.All fancoilsunits
are completely factory packaged with blower fan, motor, chilled water coil, circuited and
terminatedpipe connections. All fancoils are completely factory assembledand ready for field
installation.

CASING
All fancoil units are constructedfrom minimum 1.0 mm thicknessgalvanizedsteel sheetand
bonderized. All casing panels supports are formed or bent to provide a sturdy and rigid
^\
constructionwhich eliminate "drumming" and assures"vibration-free" operation. Casing panels
are intemally insulated with 6mm (density 35kg/m3)polyethylene (PE) foam, tightly fitted with
gasket on rigid frame to guard against leaks of conditioned air. Casing panels are easily
removablefor accessto intemal comDonentsfor service and renair.

MOTORS
Motors are permanent split capacitor type with built-in thermal overload protection. Vibration ^\
transmission is eliminated by the use of resilient motor mount. Motors are supplied with
permanently lubricated, maintenance-free sealedball bearing. Each motor is provided with a
minimum of 3 speedselection.Motor leadsare terminatedwith terminal cover for easy electrical
connection.

FANWHEELSAND HOUSING A
The light weight double-width, double inlet, forward-curved centrifugal fan wheels are
dynamically balancedto provide low sound levels, vibration-free operation, even air distribution
and minimum power requirement.

GOILS
Af l fancoilsunitsconsistof staggered
rcw of Vz"O.D. coppertubesof minimumwall thickness
0.016inch,mechanicallyexpandedinto die-foundcomrgatedaluminiumfins of thickness0.006
inch. All coils are leak testedat 450 psig air pressureand are suitablefor up to 300 psig
workingpressure.

GONDENSATE
DRAINPAN A
All condensatedrain pan are constructedfrom minimum 1.0 mm thick galvanized. The drain
pan is extemally insulatedwith minimum 5.0 mm thick fire-retardant PE foam insulation.

AN EXAMPLE OF SELECTTON PROCEI'URE

To selecta CR- CB chilled water fancoil basedon followins reouirements.

^
Total cooling capacity : 18200Btu/hr
Sensiblecoolingcapacity= 11500Btu/hr
Air on coil temp. - 78'FDB/67'FWB
Supplyair cfm = 510at 0.05inch WG ESP
Chilled water inlet temo. : 43oF
Chilled water flowrate : 3,64USGPM

Step 1
Referto Table 1, selectthe fancoil which hasnominal cooling capacitiesand cfm which arecloseto
requirements. In this caseCR 06-3Ris selected.
Nominal total cooling capacity - 20700Btu/hr
Nominalsensiblecoolingcapacity: 13960Btu/hr

Step2
Referto Table 2, determinetotal capacitycorrectionfactor FT at enteringwater temperatureof 43"F
and enteringair wet bulb temperatureof 67oF,
FT - 1.05

Step3
Calculate SH : 11500: 0.63

Step4
Refer to Table 5, correctedcfm for CR 06CB - 3 at 0.05 inch WG ESP (high speed)
= 5 8 0 x 0 . 9 3( w e t c o i l )
: 539 cfm (which meetsrequirementof 510 cfm)

Step 5
Refer to Table 3, and interpolateto obtain FC and FB factors. At 90%oof nominal airflow for
CR O6CB- 3
FC : 0.93
F B= 0 . 1 4 5

Step 6
{
Referto Table4, at flowrateof 3.6USGPM

FV = 0.998

Step7
Therefore.

Step I
To calculateleavingair wet bulb temperature

Therefore.leavingair wel bulbtemperature = 55.2'F

Step 9
To calculatesensiblecooling capacity
Leaving air dry bulb temperature Therefore, sensiblecoolingcapaciry

= 5 5 . 2 + 0 . 1 4 5( 7 8 - 6 1 ) = 1.08x 539x (78_ 56.8)
= 56.8"F = 12340BtL/hr

Step10
From step I to 9, the unit selected,i.e. CR 06CB - 3 gives
Total capacity : 20173 Btu//hr> 18200Btu/hr as specified 4
Sensiblecapacity : 12340Btu,/hr> 11500Btuihr as specified
Cfm = 539> 510asspecified
Therefore,CR 06CB - 3 selectedmeetsthe specifiedrequirements.

TO CALCULATE NOOM NC LEYEL
4
In designingsound requirementsbasedon noisecriteria(NC) levels, the soundpower levelsshould be
convertedto NC levels. Sound energy is absorbedby room surfacesand furnishingand is further
dissipatedby diffusion into space. The room absorptioneffect as calculatedfollowing the procedure
describedin ASHRAE GUIDE providesa method to determinethe sound pressurelevelsrequiredin
obtainingNC levels. Table 7 providestypical room absorptioneffects.
To determinethe NC level of a unit, subtractthe room absorption effect from the sound power levels for
all octave bands and plot the resulting sound pressurevalues on an NC curve. The NC curve is
determinedby octavebandyieldingthe highestNC value.
