• STANDARD AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATION OF SURPLUS MILITARY AIRCRAFT
SUBJECT • AND AIRCRAn' BUILT FROM SPARE AND SURPLUS PARTS
1. PURPOSE. To provide guidance and instructions on e1tabli1hing
eligibility and submitting applic.ttion for civil airworthiness
certification of surplus military aircraft and aircraft aaaemhled
from spare and surplus parts, under FAR 21.183(d) when an FAA Type
Certificate has been issued under FAR 21.21 or FAR 21.27.
3. GENERAL.

DOD notices announcing the ••le of aurplus aireraft state that the
DOD does not assume any liability or in any way repre1ent the

(4) Where components and part• have been replaced aioce original
manufacture.the records of the componenu an"d paru ahould ahow
them aa being produced under an FAA Production Certificate, FAA
Parts Manufacturer Approval, FAA Approved Production Inapection
Syatem, or FAA Technical Standard Order and ahow that they are
ttill in an airworthy condition.
(5) Records of any component• and part, that have been fabricaced
or aaaembled by the applicant which e1tabli1h that they conform
to the type deaign.

(7) Where military records are being used to substantiate any portion(s)
of conformity to FAA approved type design, the applicant should
show that the records for that specific aircraft, component or
part are complete and accurate.
NOTE: A letter from the DOD stating that the historical records
are complete and accurate would expedite the showing of the
applicant, if the applicant can obtain such a letter from the
Federal Agency where the aircraft was purchased.
c. Life•limited part• may be uaed for the remaining time left on the
part providing the record of time 11 clearly reflected in the
aircraft log books. End of life (time limit) must be reflected in
the aircraft log at the time of Standard Airworthine11 Certification.
Where the milit•ry life is less than the civil life, the military
life-limit will be used. Where the civil life-limit i• le11 than the
military, the civil will be used. In either caae the time (life-limit)
to be used is that of the leaser time. Thia can be exceeded only if
• new life-limit is established on the type data sheet.
