LISTENING TO MUSIC
LISTENING TO MUSIC
Now, what difference/s did you observe?
Let’s start first with the first recording. In the first recording Ma’am, the only
instrument played was the piano.
You are correct! How about the second Ma’am, if in the first recording there
recording? was only one instrument played, in
the second recording, I heard sounds
from many instruments such as
trumpets, violin, etc.

Good observation! The first recording is an If the first recording is called sonata, it

section?

Correct! Why do you think it is the

introduction? It is the introduction because it
consists of time signature and key
signature of the musical piece Ma’am.
Good! The second section is called the body It is the section where the theme of

in the staff.

Very good observation! The last section is Just like in writing our formal theme
called the recapitulation. Why do you think Ma’am, the conclusion should always
they are the same? be connected to the introduction.
That should also be applied in a
musical piece because the last section
should be emerged with the first
section.
Good job class! Let’s go back with the Ma’am since sonata is for solo
second recording. instrument I think the second
recording is for many instruments.
You have an idea. The 2nd recording is called
LISTENING TO MUSIC
the concerto. I will play again the 2nd
recording for you to realize its difference
from the first recording.

Yes Ma’am. I noticed that in the
recording, there are times that the
only played instrument is the piano.
Correct! Concerto is for instrumental So, the soloist in the recording is the
soloist and orchestra. piano and the orchestra are the other
instruments.
Right! Then there is another form is called

It is all about the vocal and
instrumental forms of Classical music.

The sonata, concerto, and symphony

sonata allegro Ma’am and consists of
3 sections: the introduction,
development, and the recapitulation.
