McKinsey 7S framework was developed in 1980s by Tom Peters and Robert

Waterman, two consultants working at the McKinsey & Company consulting firm,
the basic premise of the model is that there are seven internal aspects of an
organization that need to be aligned to be successful.

This model involves seven interdependent factors which are categorized as either
“hard” or “soft” elements:

Hard elements are easier to define or identify and can directly influence them, they
are:
1. Strategy
2. Structure
3. System

Soft elements are more difficult to describe, and are less tangible and more influenced
by culture, they are:

1.Shared values
2.Skills
3.Style
4.Staff

trend and the trend's relative strength.

 Range Trading
Range trading is a simple and popular strategy based on the idea that prices can often
hold within a steady and predictable range for a given period of time. That's particularly
evident in markets involving stable and predictable economies, and currencies that aren't
often subject to surprise news events.

PART-D

SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

Forex (FX) is the market in which currencies are traded. The forex market is the largest,
most liquid market in the world, with trillions of dollars changing hands every day. There is
no centralized location, rather the forex market is an electronic network of banks, brokers,
institutions, and individual traders. All these entities have currency needs, and may also
speculate on the direction of currencies.

They post their orders to buy and sell currencies on the network so they interact with other
currency orders from other parties. The forex market is open 24 hours a day, five days a
week, except for holidays. Currencies may still trade on a holiday if at least country/global
market is open for business.

The forex market is unique for several reasons, mainly because of its size. Trading volume is
generally very large. As an example, trading in foreign exchange markets averaged $5.1
trillion per day in April 2016, according to the Bank for International Settlements.

The largest foreign exchange markets are located in major global financial centers like
London, New York, Singapore, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and Sydney.

Trading activities in FOREX market

From a historical standpoint, foreign exchange trading was largely limited to governments,
large companies, and hedge funds. But in today's world, trading currencies is as easy as
a click of a mouse. Accessibility is not an issue, which means anyone can do it. Many
investment firms, banks, and retail forex brokers offer the chance for individuals to open
accounts and to trade currencies.

A currency is always traded relative to another currency. If you sell a currency, you are
buying another, and if you buy a currency you are selling another. In the electronic trading
world, a profit is made on the difference between your transaction prices.

TOPIC CHOSEN

In finance, technical analysis is a security analysis discipline for forecasting the direction

22
of prices through the study of past market data, primarily price and volume. Behavioral

economics and quantitative analysis incorporate substantial aspects of technical analysis,

which being an aspect of active management stands in contradiction to much of modern

portfolio theory. According to the weak-form efficient-market hypothesis, such forecasting

methods are valueless, since prices follow a random walk or are otherwise essentially

unpredictable.

The principles of technical analysis derive from the observation of financial markets over

hundreds of years. The oldest known hints of technical analysis appear in Joseph de la Vega

accounts of the Dutch markets in the 17th century. In Asia, the oldest example of technical

analysis is thought to be a method developed by Homma Munehisa during early 18th century

which evolved into the use of candlestick techniques, and is today a main charting tool. In the

1920s and 1930s Richard W. Schabacker published several books which continued the work

of Dow and William Peter Hamilton in his books Stock Market Theory and Practice and

Technical Market Analysis. At the end of his life he was joined by his brother in law, Robert

D. Edwards who finished his last book. In 1948 Edwards and John Magee published

Technical Analysis of Stock Trends which is widely considered to be one of the seminal

works of the discipline. It is exclusively concerned with trend analysis and chart patterns and

remains in use to the present. It is now in its 9th edition. As is obvious, early technical

analysis was almost exclusively the analysis of charts, because the processing power of

computers was not available for statistical analysis. Charles Dow reportedly originated a
form of chart analysis used by technicians—point and figure analysis. Dow Theory is based
on the collected writings of Dow Jones co-founder and editor Charles Dow, and inspired the
use and development of modern technical analysis from the end of the 19th century. Other
pioneers of nanalysis techniques include Ralph Nelson Elliott, William Delbert Gann and
Richard Wycko-who developed their respective techniques in the early 20th century. Many

23
more technical tools and theories have been developed and enhanced in recent decades, with
an increasing emphasis on computer-assisted techniques.

General description

While fundamental analysts examine earnings, dividends, new products, research and the
like, technical analysts examine what investors fear or think about those developments

and whether or not investors have the wherewithal to back up their opinions; these two

concepts are called psych (psychology) and supply/demand. Technicians employ many

techniques, one of which is the use of charts. Using charts, technical analysts seek to identify

price patterns and market trends in financial markets and attempt to exploit those patterns.

Technical analysts also widely use market indicators of many sorts, some of which are

mathematical transformations of price, often including up and down volume, advance/decline

data and other inputs. These indicators are used to help access whether an asset is trending,

and if it is, its probability of its direction and of continuation.

Technicians also look for relationships between price/volume indices and market indicators.

Examples include the relative strength index, and MACD.

Other avenues of study include correlations between changes in options (implied volatility)

and put/call ratios with price. Also important are sentiment indicators such as Put/Call ratios,

bull/bear ratios, short interest and Implied Volatility, etc.

Technical analysis holds that prices already reflect all such trends before investors are aware

of them. Uncovering those trends is what technical indicators are designed to do, imperfect as

they may be. Fundamental indicators are subject to the same limitations, naturally. Some

traders use technical or fundamental analysis exclusively, while others use both types to make

trading decisions which conceivably is the most rational approach. Users of technical analysis

24
are often called technicians or market technicians. Some prefer the term technical market

analyst or simply market analyst. An older term, chartist, is sometimes used, but as the

discipline has expanded and modernized, the use of the term chartist has become less popular,

as it is only one aspect of technical analysis.

SUPPORT AND RESISTANCE

Support and resistance is a concept in technical analysis that the movement of the price

of a security will tend to stop and reverse at certain predetermined price levels.

Support

A support level is a price level where the price tends to find support as it is going down.

However, once the price has passed this level, by an amount exceeding some noise, it is
likely to continue dropping until it finds another support level.

Resistance

A resistance level is the opposite of a support level. It is where the price tends to find
resistance as it is going up. This means the price is more likely to "bounce" off
this level rather than break through it.

However, once the price has passed this level, by an amount exceeding some noise, it is
likely that it will continue rising until it finds another resistance level.

25
Reactive vs Proactive support and resistance

Most Traders will be aware of the many different types of Support and Resistance methods
used by traders Proactive Support and Resistance methods are ‘predictive’ they often outline
areas where price has not actually been. They are formed based upon current price action that
through analysis has been shown to be predictive of future price action. Proactive Support
and Resistance methods include Elliot, Fibonacci, Calculated Pivots, Trendlines and Moving
averages. VWAP, Market Profile (VAH, VAL and POC) Reactive Support and Resistance
are the opposite they are formed directly as a result of price action or volume behaviour.
They include Volume Profile, Price Swing lows/highs, Initial Balance, Open Gaps and
OHLC. Both Proactive and Reactive Support and Resistance methods have merit and form a
staple part of any Support and Resistance based trading strategy.

Identifying support and resistance levels

Support and resistance levels can be identified by trend lines. Some traders believe in using
pivot point calculations. The more often a support/resistance level is "tested"
(touched and bounced off by price), the more significance given to that specific level. If a
price breaks past a support level, that support level often becomes a new resistance level. The
opposite is true as well, if price breaks a resistance level, it will often find support at that
level in the future. Various methods of determining support and resistance exist. A price
histogram is useful in showing at what price a market has spent more relative time.
Psychological levels near round numbers often serve as support and resistance.

More recently, volatility has been used to calculate potential support and resistance.

MARKET TREND

A market trend is a putative tendency of a financial market to move in a particular direction

over time. These trends are classified as secular for long time frames, primary for medium
time frames, and secondary lasting short times. Traders identify market trends using technical
analysis, a framework which characterizes market trends as a predictable price response of
the market at levels of price support and price resistance, varying over time. The terms bull
market and bear market describe upward and downward market trends, respectively, and can
be used to describe either the market as a whole or specific sectors and securities.

Primary market trend

26
Bull market

A bull market is associated with increasing investor confidence, and increased investing in

anticipation of future price increases (capital gains). A bullish trend in the stock market often
begins before the general economy shows clear signs of recovery. It is a win-win situation for
the investors.

Bear market

A bear market is a general decline in the stock market over a period of time. It is a transition
from high investor optimism to widespread investor fear and pessimism. According to The
Vanguard Group, "While there’s no agreed-upon definition of a bear market, one
generally accepted measure is a price decline of 20% or more over at least a two-month
period.

Secondary market trend

Secondary trends are short-term changes in price direction within a primary trend. The
duration is a few weeks or a few months. One type of secondary market trend is called a
market correction. A correction is a short term price decline of 5% to 20% or so. A correction
is a downward movement that is not large enough to be a bear market (ex post). Another type
of secondary trend is called a bear market rally which consist of a market price increase of
10% to 20%. A bear market rally is an upward movement that is not large enough to be a bull
market (ex post). Bear market rallies occurred in the Dow Jones index after the 1929 stock
market crash leading down to the market bottom in 1932, and throughout the late 1960s and
early 1970s. The Japanese Nikkei 225 has been typified by a number of bear market rallies
since the late 1980s while experiencing an overall long-term downward trend.

Secular market trend

A secular market trend is a long-term trend that lasts 5 to 25 years and consists of a series of

sequential primary trends. A secular bear market consists of smaller bull markets and larger

bear markets; a secular bull market consists of larger bull markets and smaller bear markets.

In a secular bull market the prevailing trend is " bullish& quot; or upward moving. The
United States stock market was described as being in a secular bull market from about 1983
to 2000 (or 2007), with brief upsets including the crash of 1987 and the dot-com bust of

27
2000–2002. In a secular bear market, the prevailing trend is &quot: bearish" or
downward moving. An example of a secular bear market was seen in gold during the period
between January 1980 to June 1999, culminating with the Brown Bottom. During this period
the nominal gold price fell from a high and became part Market trend 17 of the Great
Commodities Depression.

NEED FOR THE STUDY

Technical analysis is a trading discipline employed to evaluate investments and identify

trading opportunities in price trends and patterns seen on charts.

Technical analysts believe past trading activity and price changes of a security can be
valuable indicators of the security’s future price movements.

Technical analysis may be contrasted with fundamental analysis, which focuses on a

company& financials rather than historical price patterns or stock trends.

DETAILED LITERATURE REVIEW

According to Achelis :Technical analysis is the process of analyzing a security‘s historical

prices in an effort to determine probable future prices.

According to Edwards, Magee and Bassetti: It refers to the study of the action of the market
itself as opposed to the study of the goods in which the market deals. Technical Analysis is
the science of recording, usually in graphic form, the actual history of trading (price changes,
volume of transactions, etc.) in a certain currency ”

According to Murphy : Technical analysis is the study of market action, primarily through the
use of charts, for the purpose of forecasting future price trends. The term market includes the
three principal sources of information available to the technician—price, volume, and open
interest.

According to Pring ; The art of technical analysis, for it is an art, is to identify a trend reversal
at a relatively early stage and ride on that trend until the weight of the evidence shows or
proves that the trend has reversed.

Therefore, technical analysis is based on the assumption that people will continue to make the
same mistakes they have made in the past.

28
According to Cory Janssen, Chad Langager and Casey Murphy

Technical analysis is a method of evaluating securities by analyzing the statistics generated

by market activity, such as past prices and volume. Technical analysts do not attempt to
measure a security's intrinsic value, but instead use charts and other tools to identify
patterns that can suggest future action.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

1) To forecast the future trends and provide suitable suggestions to the investors.

2) To identify the inherent technical strength and weakness of the equity shares.

3) To represent the trend of the stock price through charts of the technical analysis.

4) The main objectives of technical analysis are t be able to profit from trading by observing
market patterns and statisics, to know when to enter ndexit a market especially when it starts
to shift, and to not let emotions influence trading decisions.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY:

1. One of the most important limitations for most technical analysismethods is the fact that
there are so many people using the basic technical analysis methods already, and the number
is increasing every day, making it harder for a single trader to make money on the market
with the methods.

2. Because of these methods are so widely spread and there is so much money riding on the
methods, some also claim that technical analysis has become self-fulfilling prophecy, as
people trend to enter the market and put their stops on the same places, increasing the
volatility towards the technical analysis method being correct.

3. Technical analysis systems usually do not take into accountCorrelation between different
markets. If you are analyzing several markets and they all give similar signals, they may have
close correlations, meaning that the risk profile for each is very similar, and that the prices of
the assets move in close steps with each other.

DATA ANALYSIS

Relative Strength Index

The relative strength index (RSI) is a momentum indicator that measures the magnitude of
recent price changes to evaluate overbought or oversold conditions in the price of a stock or
other asset. The RSI is displayed as an oscillator (a line graph that moves between two
extremes) and can have a reading from 0 to 100.

The Formula for RSI

The relative strength index (RSI) is computed with a two-part calculation that starts with the
following formula:

The average gain or loss used in the calculation is the average percentage gain or losses
during a look-back period. The formula uses positive values for the average losses.

The standard is to use 07 periods to calculate the initial RSI value. For example, imagine the
market closed higher seven out of the past 14 days with an average gain of 1%. The
remaining seven days all closed lower with an average loss of -0.8%.

MOVING AVERAGES

A moving average (MA) is a widely used indicator in technical analysis that helps smooth out
price action by filtering out the “noise” from random short-term price fluctuations. It is a
trend-following, or lagging, indicator because it is based on past prices.

EXPONENTIAL MOVING AVERAGE

The exponential moving average is types of indicator which gives more weightage, or
importance, to recent price data than the simple moving average (SMA) does. The EMA
responds more quickly to recent price changes than the SMA. The formula for calculating the
EMA just involves using a multiplier and starting with the SMA.

Weighted Moving Average

A Weighted Moving Average puts more weight on recent data and less on past data. This is done by
multiplying each bar’s price by a weighting factor. Because of its unique calculation, WMA will
follow prices more closely than a corresponding Simple Moving Average.

CONCLUSION

Buying and selling of currencies is not an easy task if you want to make money doing
it. Millions of investors have lost the money in past trying guessing stock price movements.
In order to consistently make money in the stock market, investors have to be right over 70%
of the time.

In today‘s world, if you rely on fundamental analysis, broker‘s advice newspaper, articles or
business channels for your investing or trading decisions, you are asking for a painful
experience in the markets. So, this study on technical analysis will help the investors in
analyzing the scripts based on the technical tools and oscillators to earn fruitful investment.

Technical analysis is the art and science of chart patterns in order to better analyze and
