1 Product Overview
The traditional data center construction involving many departments and providing
complex cooperation interface is very difficult to assure the construction process and
quality. Meanwhile, the construction leads to enormous investment and long cycle in the
whole process. The traditional data center consumes lot of energy and its unreasonable
air conditioning deployment with lower density leads to high PUE value and operation
cost. ZTE commits to create an energy-saving modular data center and solve the
problems confronted in constructing the traditional construction through factory
manufacturing, precise air supply and high density design. ZTE USapphire MDC8300
integrates the traditional rack, wiring, power distribution, management, control, lighting
system into a unified product, so that customers don't have to do engineering
management independently which is completed in factory.
The MDC8300 product takes full advantages of the modular design to realize the fast
and flexible deployment, which not only reduces the construction cost significantly, but
also greatly shorten the construction period of the data center to 8-12 weeks. The
The MDC8300 improves the overall efficiency, including the efficiency of IT equipment
and the energy utilization efficiency; it has advanced cold/hot aisle isolation technology to
support water cooling and refrigerant cooling, so as to realize a green data center.
2 Product Highlights
The MDC8300 supports reducing the construction cost, period, and complexity, and
reducing the equipment maintenance workload. The whole equipment is prefabricated in
factories. Operators only need to install and debug the equipment on site, and therefore
can save a lot of time and fund, and quickly respond to dynamic service requirements.
The new DC, with its integrated, module-based, and expandable features, revolutionarily
changes the DC construction model and greatly improves the DC construction efficiency.
In a traditional DC, most energy is consumed for cooling the environment. In contrast, the
MDC8300 uses the precise air supply and cold/hot aisle isolation technologies to have
the cold air exchange heat especially with servers instead of the environment. Compared
with the traditional DC, the energy consumed can be saved by 30%–50%. With the
efficient blade solution and the advanced air conditioner cooling technology, the
MDC8300 can use more energy on computing rather than cooling or power conversion,
so that the PUE is greatly reduced to less than 1.7.
2.3 Safety
The safety factor is fully considered in the design of the MDC8300. The access control
and safety monitoring design effectively avoids incorrect operations performed by people
who are not the equipment room administrator.
2.4 Reliability
Adopting the tier-3 design solution, the MDC8300 provides excellent reliability. It
supports the two-way power distribution system and redundant power supply system to
greatly increase the MBFT of the entire system.
3 System Structure
3.1 Overview
ZTE USapphire MDC8300 is composed of two rows (A and B) of racks. The two rows of
racks are placed face-to-face with a 1200mm wide aisle in the middle. The maximum IT
load of each cabinet is 4.5 KW. The height of the cabinet can be customized. The end of
A and B rows are 1200mm width power distribution cabinet and 1200mm width
management cabinet. Two rows of racks face each other with an aisle of 1,200 mm wide
in the middle as cold aisle. The space under anti-static floor is used as cold air supply
plenum chamber. On both ends of the aisle, a 1200mm width channel double-open door
is mounted. These double-open doors have transparent toughened glass in the middle,
so the equipment in the cold aisle can be seen from outside. Transparent top windows
are set above the aisle. The ceiling and doors keep the cold aisle closed tightly. At the
top of the module, cable slots are set longitudinally for power tray and network tray.
MDC8300 supports equipotential bonding of metallic conductors such as cabinetsand
precision power distribution cabinets. Each cabinet has two connecting conductors with
different lengths to connect with the nearby equipotential bonding grid.

ZTE USapphire Micromodular Data Center MDC8300 Product Description
The rack has the flexible power supply solution. PDU is installed at the side of the rack,
and the cabling boxes can be configured in multiple ways for choice.
The rack system has the perfect quake-proof and shock-absorption countermeasure.
The shock-absorption and quake-proof components are optional to realize the internal
protection of the equipment in the rack.
2. Rack framework
The framework is the major module of the frame subsystem, which is also the framework
of the whole rack system and the core of connecting various subsystems an modules.
The framework uses the welding structure. The welding positioning is designed between
structures to ensure the positioning precision and make the welding operation
convenient.
The front/rear frame consists of the welded uprights, lintel, beam, and fixed blocks. The
uprights are the major components in the front/rear frames. The design of the section
shape of the uprights plays a key role in the stiffness of the whole machine. The upright
design is the bending structure with 2mm of cold-roll steel sheet. The section structure is
shown in the following figure. The beam and lintel are constructed with sheet metal
punching and bending. The fixed block is the precise welding component.
ZTE’s standard MDC product is designed with base so that the water pipes can be
designed and installed under the base.
The base uses the full LCL design, which is pre-manufactured in the factory and
assembled on the site. The base uses the bent 3mm-thick sheet metal or angle iron
structure. Each base keeps the same width and depth at that of the rack body lay over
the base. It is for the convenience of layout and maintenance of the internal channel.
3.3 Electrical
Supporting the precision power distribution, power distribution cabinets within a module
distribute the electricity to rack PDUs of each cabinet through power distribution switches
and cables. The power distribution cabinet is equipped with the surge protector,
intelligent electric meter, and alarm device, and supports including the operation data
(including voltage, current, power, power factor, harmonic wave) collected by the electric
meter in the light current monitoring system to realize the 7 × 24 uninterrupted
monitoring.
The dual power distribution array cabinets provide UPS electricity for two intelligent
PDUs inside cabinets.
3.4 Cooling
The management and control system, ZXCLOUD iDCIM, supports the environment
detection equipment, different kinds of power equipment, and the security system.
Detection targets of subsystems include: (1) power detection: power distribution cabinets,
iPDU, UPS systems, and storage batteries, (2) environment detection: air conditioners,
temperature and humidity, water leakage, and lightning protection, (3) security detection:
access control, video, fire protection, anti-theft, and platform alarm. The system also
monitors the environment temperature to control the switching between the water cooling
system and natural air cooling system.
ZXCLOUD iDCIM system supports abundant interfaces, multiple alarm functions, open
protocol interfaces, large-capacity data collection and storage, and intelligent data
analysis technology. The power consumption management system manages and
records the electricity consumed by the whole area served by a rack and supports the
external network access. The detection and monitoring of the temperature, humidity,
moisture, and smoke are integrated within the alarm system which supports the intrusion
detection function to realize the unified management and remote monitoring. For
example, the fire alarm system, composed by an early-stage smoke detector and fire
suppression system, can identify the fire at an early stage and immediately take
emergency measures. The micromodule is also equipped with the emergency power
cut-off device to ensure the safety of human and equipment.

Through the front door of a MDC, equipment can be carried in/out for repair. Each
cabinet can be opened from the back for maintenance. The maintenance of any cabinet
has no impact on other cabinets.
The power distribution cabinet is equipped with a main circuit breaker and a surge
protector to effectively ensure the normal running of the main circuit. The power is
distributed to each cabinet separately, so the power distribution fault of a cabinet has no
impact on other cabinets.

switches.
8. Turn on fans and the set to test the heat dissipation device.
