KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The Department of Occupational Safety and Health
(DOSH) has issued a stop-work notice on construction activities at a construction
site in Kampung Baru following the crane collapse incident here yesterday.

Its director-general, Datuk Mohtar Musri said legal action would be taken on quarters
responsible, if it was found there was any breach of regulations under the
Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and the Factories and Machinery Act
1967.

“At the time of the incident, a worker was handling the tower crane when suddenly
the luffing boom of the tower crane collapsed and crashed on a vehicle outside the
construction site.

“The incident caused minor injury on a worker and two members of the public, apart
from damage to vehicles parked near the location of the accident,” he said in a
statement here yesterday.

He said the department viewed seriously such an accident, especially when it


involved workers or members of the public.

Three people were injured and two vehicles were damaged in the incident which
occurred about 1pm.

Crane collapse at construction site have become a serious menace that threatens life
and properties at an alarming rate particularly in developing nations such as Malaysia. Based
on the case study we get to know that the luffing boom of the crane collapse at
Kampung Baru crashed on the vehicle outside the construction site around 1 pm.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman also confirmed that
three people were injured. A woman running away from the scene suffered a broken shoulder
after she was hit by the crane. Another victim Zukri Hussin, 57, said during the incident, he
was in his car which was parked along the road. “I sustained injuries on my right hand from a
shard of glass after cables hanging from the crane whipped my car’s windscreen, causing it to
break,” he said. In the incident, a construction worker and two pedestrians were reported to
be injured and they were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Moreover, the management did not provide a proper safety signage or barricade at the
site that is the cause of the vehicle outside the area get involved also a poor maintenance of
the crane cause the wire rope not stabilize and cause the boom collapsed . Meanwhile, the
Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has issued a stop-work notice on
construction activities for safety purpose.

The project is being undertaken by UDA Holdings Berhad also they take immediate
steps to inform respective parties to close the area. A thorough investigation is being
conducted to find out the cause of the incident.
