INTRODUCTION

The practical experiences are improvised for students to discover the working environment. The Industrial
visit really exposes students to industry based skills student of tertiary institution the opportunity of being
familiarized and exposed to the needed experienced in handling the skills in the field of construction which
are usually not available in the educational institutions.we have assigned MARYMATHA
CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

We have great fortune to visit the sites which is not usually possible. The project was kundanoor
flyover,a fly over which is situated at the kundanoor junction with a 701 meter long six lane on the fly over
and the estimated cost is 74.45 core. Finally we also had a chance to watch the slab errection in the site.this
report gives the summary of the work experience and the knowledge we acquired during 10 days training
period.

4.1 DETAILS OF STRUCTURE

1. Pile cap: • Formation of pile- pile cap= R.L of existing ground level-cut off level Pile cap is formed
by combination of pile and then binding the steel followed by shuttering • Dimension of pile caps- for
P1 to P15: length= 16m, breadth=5.2m, height=1.8m for P16 to P19: length= 12.4m, breadth= 5.2m,
height= 1.8m for P21, P23, P24, P26, P27, P29, P30, P32, P33, P21A, P20A, P23A, P20

height= 1.8m After piling completion, soil is excavated for construction of pile cap. For proper pile cap
P.C.C. Is provided for separation from mud. At site 75mm thick PCC is carried out for control over
seepage.

3. PIER SHAFT A pier shaft is a raised structure provided mostly at the centre of the pile cap
which supports the structure and transfer the several types of load to the foundation. DIMENSION
OF THE SHAFT: length= 2m, breadth= 2m, height= and length= 1.5m, breadth= 1.5m, height=

4.  PIER CAP- Pier caps are the topmost structure of the substructure. Above these the superstructures
(segments & girders) are placed. DIMENSIONS OF PIER CAPS: For P1 to P14: Length= 6m,
Breadth= 3.3m For P23, P26, P29, P32, P33, P20A : Length= 5.4m, Breadth= 2.8m For P21, P24,

6.  BEARINGS, PEDESTALS, SEISMIC STOPPERS After the accumulation of all the
reinforcements in pier cap a surface is formed over which Bearings, Pedestals and Seismic stoppers
are provided as per the design. Seismic stopper: The current designs of seismically designs as a
second line of defence. These structures allow development of in-service moments of the deck,
without transmitting loads on pier and foundation, while during earthquake they resist the entire
seismic action. Height of stopper= 1.2m LV bars are used of 400mm & 700mm ,16mm dia.

4.2 LAB DETAILS

1.SLUMP TEST
Concrete slump test is to determine the workability or consistency of concrete mix prepared at the
Laboratory or the construction site during the progress of the work.Concrete slump test is carried

Out from batch to batch to check the uniform quality of concrete during construction.

2. COMPACTION FACTOR TEST

Compaction factor test is the workability test for concrete conducted in laboratory. The
compaction factor is the ratio of weights of partially compacted to fully compacted concrete. It was
developed by Road Research Laboratory in United Kingdom and is used to determine the
workability of concrete
The compaction factor test is used for concrete which have low workability for which

slump test is not suitable.

4.3 SAFETY AT SITE
ersonal protective equipment (PPE) are supplied to all the personnel’s working on site and
P
even for the personal who are temporary visiting to the site
Personal protective equipment (PPE) can be classified as:

o Minimum Personal protective equipment (PPE)

o Protective gloves
o Hearing protection
o Full face shields when cutting, grinding, or chipping
o Chemical splash goggles
o Respiratory protection
o Fall protection equipment when working above 6 feet
o Specific protective clothing such as welding leathers when welding or FR clothing when working
with live electric
o

o Additional Personal protective equipment (PPE)

4.4 PROCESS
he construction process is also a lot faster because of the introduction of a multitude of different
T
heavy construction equipment. Many stages involved in the construction of a flyover.we were reached on the
second stage of the process which includes.

First of all, the alignment of the flyover is laid out and the pier and abutment locations are located. If there
are piles for the abutments or piers, they will excavate to the appropriate depth and begin by driving pile.

If they are shallow footings, then they will excavate to the appropriate depth, compact the subgrade material,
and possibly build a leveling, or rat slab. The picture below is of a rat slab for a pile foundation. There were
64 pile for each pier location on this project.

The rat slab provides a level place to start tying your rebar. A shallow foundation is pictured below.

The concrete is then placed on the bottom portion of the foundation, within formwork, or using the ground
as a form.

The pier column or abutment concrete is then placed.

The place steel or precast girders, or box girders, etc.

Then we work on building our deck with either precast slabs or by placing a concrete deck

Then,we builded roadway and paint pavement markings and the work is done.
CONCLUSION

The main aim of studies within this project was to investigate how a flyover is constructed within the desired
properties. We get knowledge about the basic and advanced techniques of flyover construction as well as saw
the challenges which a civil engineer have to face during construction i.e. labour problems, cost
management, envitomental challenges etc.We cleared our many doubts regarding flyover construction.
During the period of 14 days the company staff helped us a lot to provide all the information about the project. So we
are grateful to all staff of MARY MATHA CONSTRUCTION COMPANY.As well as we are so thankful to
our Civil engineers for their kind support.
