The Power of Faith

by: Laikah Grace P. Bitaga

What is faith? Such is a very vague word, I cannot give meaning or definition that

easily. It is like trying to grab a fish in the water with one hand. It’s an elusive and very

difficult concept. Let us take a look on what people say about it.

Faith is the very sum and substance of life. Without faith, human beings cannot

achieve anything. If we observe the entire greatest Endeavour’s carried out in this

world, we find that behind them, faith was the sole-driving force, without which

everything is impossible.

A person can set a goal for himself, only if he has faith that ultimately he will

achieve the goal. Thus, faith forms the foundation of every new achievement, every new

invention and every new discovery and every new victory. There is a co-relation

between faith and achievement.

Faith cannot be imposed upon anyone. It comes from deep inside one’s heart. It

cannot be measured. The quantity of faith possessed by us depends upon how positive

our approach towards life is. Without faith, motivation for the achievement of goal is

completely lost and the person ends up becoming a failure in his life. If we observe the

reasons behind the failure of any person, we find that one of the main factors

responsible for his failure is lack of faith. Faith is the only power that inspires a human

being in despair. But if a person loses faith during the period of struggle, he gives up

hope for any success and succumbs to the unfavorable situations. So, an individual

without faith is as good as a dead person. His life is just like a deflated balloon.

Faith is the foundation stone of any project that is undertaken with a will to

complete. It is that driving force which enlightens the candle of hope by giving strength

to fight against all odds. A person having faith may face failures in his or her life, but he

does not lose his heart in despair. He knows that the obstacles that are coming in his

way are only temporary and he will ultimately be successful in achieving his goal.

Faith is that unique quality, which invigorates a person to win over his or her

physical disabilities. The will power provided by faith is so strong that even physically-

challenged persons can easily overcome their handicaps. There are enormous real-life

examples to prove this fact.

Louis Braille became blind at the tender age of two or three. But later through his

will power and faith, he overcame his feebleness caused by loss of sight. He invented a

new method of reading and writing for the blind which greatly benefitted the visually

handicapped people. That system was named after him as the “Braille System”. A deaf,

dumb and blind Helen Keller set an example in the world of disabled people. She made

a mark by standing on her feet and educating thousands of handicapped persons.

Swami Vivekananda believed that majority of miseries in this world would not

have existed if power of faith had been practiced by all. Ups and downs are common in

everyone’s life, but a person having faith knows deep inside his or her heart that the

period of struggle will become a passé in his or her life, if he or she faces all the

miseries with a brave heart. Tolstoy has correctly said that faith is the force of life. Faith

is the mother of success. With it anything is possible.

As for me, faith, simply put, is our intimate relationship with God. Every life –

including yours – is a series of successes and failures, celebrations and

disappointments, joys and sorrows. Every step of the way, through every triumph and

tragedy, God will stand by our side and strengthen us . . . if we have faith in Him. Jesus

taught His disciples that if they had faith, they could move mountains. We can too.

When we place our faith, our trust, indeed our life in the hands of Christ Jesus,

we’ll be amazed at the marvelous things He can do with us and through us. So

strengthen our faith through praise, through worship, through Bible study, and through

prayer. And trust God’s plans. With Him, all things are possible and He stands ready to

open a world of possibilities to us . . . if we have faith.

“Have faith in the Lord your God, and you will stand strong. Have faith in his

prophets, and you will succeed (2 Chronicles 20:20).”
