Install the NIC

Perform the following procedure for installing the NICs.

l Purpose

l Install dual port NIC

5.3.1 Purpose
If the FTE NIC is not installed at the factory, use the procedures in this section to install and
configure the FTE NICs for your FTE node. For further information, refer to the vendor-specific
documentation.
In addition, refer to the following topics in Planning, Installation, and Service Guide, for further
information about the specific platform being installed.

l Specific Slot Requirements in Workstation Configurations section.

5.3.2 Install dual port NIC

Use this procedure to install the NIC in the PCI slot. If necessary, refer to specific platform
hardware manual for information on the available PCI slots.
TIP
Before installing the NIC, review all documentation packaged with the dual port NIC,
including the Quick Start Guide.
1. Identify the “ACT/LINK A” and “ACT/LINK B” ports on the NIC.
ATTENTION
The ACT/LINK A port is closest to the middle of the card.
TIP
Although the next two steps are optional, it is required to know the physical
ethernet address used for each port on the NIC. Based on the physical ethernet
address, review the MAC address table in the Switch Configuration menu to identify
the associated switch and dual adapter ports.
- 42 -
2. Locate and record the NIC’s label containing the 12-digit, hexadecimal physical ethernet
(MAC) address.
ATTENTION
This address applies to Port “A” (ACT/LINK A) on the NIC.
3. Increment the address for port “A” by 1 to derive the physical ethernet (MAC) address for port
“B”, and record the value.
4. Install the dual port NIC in the proper slot using the instructions in the Installation Guide
packaged with the device.
5.4 Install or update NIC drivers
Perform the following procedure for installing or updating the FTE NIC driver.
Honeywell recommends to use the NIC drivers provided in the Experion PKS System Initialization
media or download the latest version from the Honeywellprocess.com website. Refer to the latest
Experion PKS General Release SCN for driver updates.
Determine which manufacture of NICs is installed on the computer and perform either the Intel or
Broadcom procedure for driver installation.

ATTENTION
l Before you begin, ensure that you have used the dual NICs listed in FTE-qualified

NICs, for configuring FTE on computers that do not have the onboard adapters.
l If drivers were downloaded from the Honeywellprocess.com website, ensure that

the instructions included with the drivers are followed instead of this procedure.
CAUTION
If FTE is installed and is operating, disable the FTE by performing the procedure in Unbind
physical adapters from Honeywell FTE adapter, before updating the adapter driver version.
Install Intel drivers
