For your Discussion Assignment, you will practice using APA Citations to give credit to the source of

the information you read. This is crucial since not giving credit (plagiarism) can lead to a Fail for the
assignment, the course and even have you expelled from the university.
You will write a review of the short story you chose from the Unit 3 reading assignment. You will state
which tale you picked, why, and give a brief (one or two sentence) summary of the story. You will then
say if you liked the story or not and why. At the end of this, you will list:
• One quote with APA Citations.

• One paraphrase with APA Citations.

• The Reference information (if you need help with the reference material, you can
use www.bibme.org but make sure you select APA and not MLA).

I chose the story “In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd “by Ana Menéndez. I picked this story for the
nostalgic feeling it passes, and it is a soft reading. It’s the story of four friends called Antonio, Carlos,
Máximo and Raúl who built their friendship playing domino. They moved to Miami, and as the time
passes they keept the memory of the land where they knew each other, their history and the life they
had there, like in Máximo’s memories, he and his wife had the tradition to spend the date with his
family (Menéndez, 2001), being reinforced by Maximo’s jokes as he tells “"Okay. A bunch of rafters
are on the beach getting ready to sail off to Miami. [...]So anyway, a bunch of rafters are gathered there
on the sand. And they're all crying and hugging their wives and all the rafts are bobbing on the water
and suddenly someone in the group yells, `Hey! Look who goes there!' And it's Fidel in swimming
trunks, carrying a raft on his back.[...]So one of the guys on the sand says to Fidel, `Compatriota, what
are you doing here? What's with the raft?' And Fidel sits on his raft and pushes off the shore and says,
`I'm sick of this place too. I'm going to Miami.' So the other guys look at each other and say, `Coño,
compadre, if you're leaving, then there's no reason for us to go. Here, take my raft too, and get the fuck
out of here.'”"(Menédez, 2001, p. 26). This jokes shows the feeling of the story, it’s a sad joke.
about the political situation of there. The story tells briefly their happiness and their sorrows through
the time but most important, it transmit a genuine feeling of the people of Cuba, as I could see.
