Positioning yourself and clients correctly

The importance of position of yourself is very important as a back injury can be caused. This is all
down to posture and you manoeuvre yourself around the client when carrying out a service. If you
have to bend down then you should be able to put your chair higher if not bend from your knees. If
you need to reach the sides of your client walk round to the side of them don’t twist round to them.
The importance of how your client is positioned is important as they could be caused discomfort and
the service may not be done to expectations e.g. if the client is slouched in the chair. Always ensure
clients are seated up straight with their back against the back of the chair.

Page 5
Importance of a clean tidy work area
It is important to ensure every work area in the salon is clean to avoid the risk of cross
infection/infestation. The importance of keeping work areas tidy is so you know where
everything is and are not having to waste time looking for what you need, organisation is
key. Things lying around untidy/unorganised can also cause a risk of injury to anyone in the
salon as it can be a hazard without even knowing it. If the salon is not clean and tidy this
could be bad for business as clients wouldn’t enjoy their experience somewhere that is
messy and dirty.

Page 6
Safe hygienic working methods

after every use.
 Scissors and clippers wiped sterile after every use
 Wipe down full work area after every use

 Clean toilet every day as much as necessary

Reasons for economical use of products

If products are not used economically they may be misused and not work the way they are meant to.
If too much is used a lot can be wasted and is cost affected on salons profits. Interferes on the stock
rotation. To save salon money if storage containers are recycled e.g. Shampoo bottles.

Page 10
Effective advice to clients
Advice on cutting clients can be on how to use heated/ electrical equipment to maintain their style.

Advice on colouring clients can be what types of shampoo to use and what to avoid.

Advice on long hair clients can be the use of products to keep the style maintained if wanting to
keep it in for more than a day. Or how to remove pins, Kirby grips or hair pieces.
