The Praxis Core Exam is significant to becoming a teacher in Nevada. This test measures
the academic abilities of potential teachers in math, reading and writing. These skills are
necessary for a teacher to be successful in their career. I must pass all three exams to transfer to
UNLV next year, for my bachelors in Elementary Education. This is a requirement I must meet
to continue my journey towards becoming a full-time teacher for the Clark County school
district. The passing score for Reading is 156, the passing score for Writing is 162, and for Math,
it is 150. I must pass all three of these tests. If I do not achieve the passing score, I have the
Exam Preparation
To prepare for the practice Praxis Core Exam, I looked up websites that I could do some
practice tests. I was not sure if these tests were accurate to the real tests. I had a friend who had
taken the Praxis recently and she had recommended a book for me to read for help on the test. I
got that book from her and read through it. I think I should have done more practice tests just to
brush up on my skills. I thought I was good at reading and understanding passages, but I could
In Reading, I scored a 21% which means I need significant practice. I took the practice
exam and got a bad grade, but I also took the Praxis exam the other day and passed the reading
portion of the test. The testing site gives you an unofficial score right after you finish the test. I
saw that number, and it was a 160, which means I passed. The official results do not come in till
10 days, so I do not have the results for all the tests yet. In math, I received a score of 38% which
means I need significant practice. When I took the Praxis, I did not pass the math section, my
score was 106. For the writing I received a 58%, my score for writing shows, I need significant
improvement. I need to improve on math for the Praxis. I know I have passed the reading part of
the Praxis, but I have not passed math; I have not received the writing back yet because I had to
write two essays. Based on my practice tests I don’t know if I will pass the writing section of the
test.
These exam results made me very scared to take the actual Praxis exam. When I took the
exam, I only had those scores in my head, and I was trying to have a positive attitude. The tests
were a lot harder than I thought. Now, I see that I have a lot more studying to do than I
originally anticipated. I will wait to get my writing score back and see if I just need to study math
to retake or writing as well. I will spend more time reading the book I received. I can also do
more practice tests before I go back in to take it again. I might need to consider a tutor for the
math section just to help me brush up on mu skills again. In the future I will plan better so I can
