Kanchi Mahaswamy's 116th Jayanthi is being celeberated by His ardent

devotees all over the World tomorrow.I can imagine the real enthusiasm
of some of the Pure Pandits of Bridgewater to Brisbane as every one of
them strongly has a feeling that it is He who has made these simple
Sanskrit Pandits what they are today..some of them didnt even know
English when they all boarded the Plane to USA to UK to Australia!But
Mahswamy always felt that the day will come that these Pandits and the
Sthapathis like Ganapathy wd have their upper hands!
Vikku Vinayakaram never fails to recall this incident in his life:
"When I was unable to pusue my studies and was playful only playing
Gatam,Periyava used to tell me:
"dont worry..Go on playing Gatam sincerely.One day that will make you
a great man."
Vikku Vinayakaram says "It is a miracle"!

Greatness of Periyavaa is His humility when some of His very ardent

devotees used to recall His Miracles even during His presence,He
always used to say:"Its because God is with you.."
To recall a few of His miracles :-
1.Judge Kailasam and his wife were so devoted to Periyavaa that they
used to follow Him wherever He camped.In the late 80s Periyavaa was
travelling from Andhra border to Karnataka/Maharashtra and He was
camping in a small hut in a place called Mahagaon on the banks of
Krishna River.I had the privilege of His darsahn there..One had to get
down near Cuddapah and go by an auto nearly 10 KMs..
On this day Judge Kailasam and Mrs Kailasam had come for His
Darshan.Periyavaa used to be in a very jovial mood in those places and
after darshan Judge Kailasam(he had retired by then and was in many
Govt Committees and was on his way to Bombay for a meeting..)asked
Periyavaa for "Utharavu"(permission to leave)
Periyavaa smiled and asked him:"Why you are in a hurry?When is the
meeting in Bombay?"
Judge:"Only day after tomorrow .But I have reserved the Tkts by the
evening train from Cuddapah."
Periyavaa:"Today is Pradosham.You better stay here and go tomorrow
since you have the meeting only day after."
Judge:"With Periyavaa's permission I wd like to go today itself as
planned."
Mrs.Kailasam interferes and says:"When Periyavaa says stay back
better cancel the tkts,we can go tomorrow.I wish to stay back.."
so devoted she is to Periyavaa!
 Judge decides to stay back..His assistants helped him to book a tkt for
the next day train!
The train which he was supposed to travel met with a major accident
next to Cuddapah and nearly 220 died!
This incident was narrated by none other than Mrs.Kailsam herself in a
Jaynathi function held in old Eros Theatre(LB Road Adyar) and this lady
was uncontrollably sobbing on that day also!

2.Vanathai Pathipakam,Thirunavukkarasu,is known to be a great

admirer of Periyavaa.He always executes whatever Periyavaa
commands and this incident in his life was narrated by him in another
Jayanthi function.
Thirunavukkarasu said he had an aged unmarried sister,who developed
some problems uncontrollable.Thirunavukkarasu and his wife found it
difficult to take care of her but at the same time ,affection for his sister
forced him to do the duty..So he decided to take Periyavaa's advice in
Kanchipuram ..He literally lifted his sister in his hands and went to
Periyavaa..He was in tears ..Periyavaa asked Thirunavukkarasu:
"is she having this problem always or only in the nights or in the
mornings?"
Thirunavukkarasu:"Only in the nights..It is sometimes uncontrollable.."
After deep thoughts Periyavaa said :"Keep Thiruvachakam book under
her pillow and try to either you yourself read Thiruvachakam daily or
keep a Cassette player near her.."
Thirunavukkarasu said exactly on the 45th day,she was completely
back to normal..showing her sister who was sitting in the audience..
We all cd see Tears in Thirunavukkarasu's eyes!

3.Periyavaa's devotion for Adi Sankara is purest of the purest and this
incident happened in 1983 at Satara where I was also a witness..
Indira Gandhi had a special liking for Periyavaa(pls see the next miracle
too) and hence for 1983 Sankara Jayanthi,she wanted to release a
stamp on Adi Sankara.She didnt want to release it without getting
permission from Periyavaa and hence she had sent
C.Subramaniam,who was the min of agriculture and an ardent devotee
of Periyavaa all the way to Satara..Normally Periyavaa treats all as
equal and when CS came
He enquired "why he had come?"
CS said he has come to take the permission for the Sankara Stamp to
be released..
Periyavaa thought for a sec and asked him with a smile:
 "Permission means you have already decided to release the stamp and
you have come here for a formal information to me or if ,I give an
opinion ,that wd be binding on the govt!"
Cs said:"PM made it clear whatever Periyavaa says will be carried
out(he was thinking that the stamp release wd meet with His approval!)"
Periyavaa:"If you ask me,I am against a stamp for Acharya..He is such
a great avatar I dont want every one to lick His photo and paste in all
the covers..His greatness can never ever diminish whether we mortals
(He inlcudes Himself too!)release a simple stamp or not."
CS said:"I wd convey the same to PM"
Periyavaa:"incase she is keen on releasing or already made
arrangements,it is her wish I have made 'my wish' because you have
come all the way and asked for it.."
The stamp was never released by Indira Gandhi..
so much respect she had for Him..The reason is simple..Read now..
4.Hampi..July 1979..Very hot indeed..
Indira Gandhi was powerless..None thought that Morarji Desai and
Charan Singh govt cd be toppled..Indira Gandhi when she met
Periyavaa in Kalavai during her emergency days,Periyavaa didnt even
look at her..AS Raman of Illustrated weekly writes:"He showed so much
contempt that she had to sit for 45 mts silently and come out without a
single word uttered.."
This time she went to see Him at Hampi on July 5th..I had His darshan
in Hampi temple on that Sunday as I had gone to Bellary for purchase of
cotton and one well wisher took me to Him..
On July 6th The Hindu carried this news item..
"Indira Gandhi walked all the way in Hampi bare foot to have darshan of
Kanchi Periyavaa..He was in a His jovial mood..Indira Gandhi asked for
His blessings..He asked her :"Blessings for you?or for your Family or for
the welfare of the Nation?"
She said:"Welfare of the Nation."
"If one has corrected himself/herself and starts devoting one for the
welfare of the poorer in the society,God will be with him/her..Dont worry
I cd see a transformation in you..The day is not far off before your
aspirations are fulfilled,provided you shd sincerely serve for the
downtrodden.."
She said:"I promise I will do so.."
On her return to Delhi she was surprised that Sanjay Gandhi had
planned to topple Charan Singh's govt(which none cd expect at that
time!)
and she came back to power by 1980..
After taking charge she wanted to make a pilgrimage only to Two places
..
(1)To have darshan of Periyavaa (2)To give Thulabaram at Guruvayur..
When she met Periyavaa in 1980,
she wanted Him to tell anything specific she can do for Him..
He said..
"Sanskrit is dying..if you can do something it is a great help.."
On her return she created a rs 4 cr fund for Sanskrit and started a 5 mts
News in Sanskrit in AIR..
Kanchi Mahaswamy is definitely a Living God..

and if an ordinary man like me cd experience many miracles,

like sending one daughter to Princeton with 100% Scholarship for UG
and another daughter to Harvard UG with 100% Scholarship,
any intellectual in the world can conclude....
