1. The document provides installation instructions for replacing solenoids in an A4LD automatic transmission.
2. It instructs the user to remove the valve body and separator plate to access the solenoids. The wires should be cut close to the solenoid being replaced.
3. New solenoids are installed along with a new aluminum sleeve. Wires are connected to the new solenoids and a "V" connector is used to provide voltage to both solenoids.

1. To Remove: Before removing the valve body, label wire
pairs. Unplug the electrical wires that attach the 3-4 solenoid leads. The valve body on all A4LD transmissions must be removed before any of the solenoids can be replaced.
Caution: During disassembly internal components will
dislodge and fallout.
5. Strip back lead wirescut from the old solenoidand original
solenoidharnessapproximately1/2" and twist braidedwire to form a tight strand.Loosenthe Posi-LockTM Connectors.Insert the bare wire into the connectoruntil it bottomsout. Tighten the connector.Repeatthis procedurefor all of the connections (Figure 3). 6. Installthe "V"connector(Figure 4) to the positivecenter wire,so therewill be voltageto bothsolenoids. The lock-up solenoidhas red wires, and the 3-4 solenoidhas bluewires. The easiestwayto keeptrack of wire locationis to remember
2. Afterthe valve body hasbeen removed, the separatorplate
mustbe removed.Nowremovethe retainerclip that keepsthe solenoidin place. Cutthe wiresas close as possibleto the Shiftsolenoid. 3. Afterthe solenoidis removed, locatethe aluminum sleeve/plugin the 3-4 solenoidboreposition.Removeand discard. 4. To Install: Install the aluminum sleeve furnished in the kit (Figure 2). The solenoid and retaining clip may the positive center wire goes to both solenoids. The wire now be installed. When located to the rear of the transmission is the lock-up ground. installing the separator The lock-up solenoid is located nearest the front of the plate and valve body, be transmission. The wire located closest to the front of the sure to tighten all bolts to transmission is the 3-4 ground. This is the solenoid located to factory specifications. the rear. Make wire connections as shown in Figures 3 and 4.
