>
> 2 REBECCA Day five. Alberto helped me out, again. My car broke down,
> I'll have to take a
> 3 bus to San Francisco.
>
> 4 INSIDE ALBERTO'S CAR DAY
> 5 Alberta is driving. He looks over at Rebecca,
>
> 6 ALBERTO Seriously, though, I mean . ., we . ., let me take you back
> to San Francisco. It's going to
> 7 be faster and cheaper.
> 8 REBECCA I appreciate the offer. . . but. . . I think I'll take the
> bus.
> 9 ALBERTO drives for a short while and then decides to ask one more
> time.
> 10 ALBERTO Yeah, I suppose you have to be careful , . , You just can't
> drive with anyone.
> 11 REBECCA But I still don't even know your last name.
>
> 12 ALBERTO Mendoza, Actually, it's (with a Spanish accent) Alberto
> Manuel Mendoza.
>
> 13 REBECCA (surprised) That's a pretty good Spanish accent,
> 14 ALBERTO My family is from Mexico,
> 15 REBECCA Where in Mexico?
> 16 ALBERTO A little village west of Monterey. . . So, what's your full
> name?
17 REBECCA Rebecca Mary Theresa Casey. My grandparents are from Ireland.
18 ALBERTO Dublin?
19 REBECCA No. from the west . . . It's a little town in Galway. I'm told it's a
beautiful place,
20 but it's a very poor town.
21 ALBERTO My family s village was poor, too. You know no money, no jobs, just
politics . . .
22 REBECCA I guess that's why both our families moved to the United States.
23 ALBERTO Oh, yeah, that's right . . . to have a better life, to get an
education, and to make
24 a living...
31 CANYON AREA
32 The car stops and Alberto opens the door and steps out.
33 ALBERTO Wow, these canyons are spectacular.
34 REBECCA Yeah, it, it says here that these canyons were sacred to the Agua
Caliente
35 Indians.
36 ALBERTO Its pronounced Agua Caliente.
37 REBECCA (repeating) Agua Caliente.
38 ALBERTO Now I've got to take some photos. Do you mind carrying my bag?
39 REBECCA No, not at all.
40 Rebecca and Alberto explore an area of beautiful canyons. They look at a rock
with letters carved into it.
41 REBECCA It's hard to imagine what these canyons were like so many years ago.
42 ALBERTO Probably much the same as they are today . . . Look at that over
there.
43 They walk to an area filled with beautiful palm trees and running water.
Alberto is carrying his camera
44 and tripod.
45 REBECCA This is really amazing. They must call this a desert oasis.
46 ALBERTO Yeah, I bet you these palm trees are over a hundred years old.
47 Alberto places his tripod.
48 ALBERTO This is it. Could you do me a favor?
49 REBECCA Umhmm.
50 ALBERTO I, I need someone in this picture. Can you stand over by the palm
tree?
5l REBECCA Alberto, there are more interesting things to photograph here than
me.
52 ALBERTO No really, I'm serious. I, I, I need you in the picture to give the
picture a sense of
53 scale.
54 REBECCA But, 1, I don't know . . .
55 ALBERTO Please. . .
56 REBECCA Well, since you’ve gone out of your way, I guess it’s the least I can
do . . .
57 ALBERTO All right, yeah, stand over . . . that palm tree to your right.
There, perfect.
58 Rebecca stands next to a tree. We watch as she moves according to Alberto's
directions.
59 ALBERTO Yes. Turn, turn a, yeah, turn around a little bit . . . There, there
you go . . . Yes . . .
60 Yes . . . Yes.
61 REBECCA What, what time is it!
62 ALBERTO You know, you look great on camera. Thank you.
63 REBECCA Oh, we have to go. My bus leaves in less than an hour.
64 ALBERTO Hold it, hold it, hold it right there. Hold, hold it.
65 REBECCA Alberto, please. There is only one bus a day. I have to make it on
time.
66 As she gets very close, he takes another picture.
67 ALBERTO Thanks.
PART 2
79 HIGHWAY
80 The policeman returns to his car to check on the license and registration.
81 REBECCA I hope he doesn't give you a ticket.
82 ALBERTO (Alberto nods in agreement.) You can say that again.
83 The policeman returns to Alberto's car.
84 POLICEMAN OK, since you don't have any points on your license, this time,
I'll give you
85 a warning.
86 ALBERTO Thank you, officer.
87 REBECCA Thanks.
88 The policeman walks away.
89 REBECCA Whew! How lucky is that: he didn't give you a ticket.
90 ALBERTO Yes . . . whew.
91 Alberto's car moves through the desert, keeping just within the speed limit.
PART 3
166 HIGHWAY
167 We see Alberto's car as it travels along the highway.
