Activity Number : 13
2. In the title box, type the name of your file. As a suggestion, you may want to use
"USA", which describes what the part will look like when you are done. It is also a good
idea to keep file names as short as possible. You do not need to type the ".nc" extension
after the file name. The program will add it automatically.
3. After naming the file, you can select the directory to save it to. The default directory is
the WPLM folder, but you may wish to save it elsewhere. Just click in the Save In
window to get a directory of file folders.
4. Choose the folder you wish to save the file to, and then click on Save.
5. Return to the file edit window and continue entering the code. When you are finished,
save the file again by clicking File > Save, or by clicking the Save icon in the toolbar.
Task 13-4: Edit Your NC Program
When you entered your NC program, you may have made some typing errors,
which is common even for experienced programmers. Check each block of your NC
program carefully to make sure it matches the coding sheet. When you have finished
editing, save your program again.
Task 13-6: Inventory and Shut Down
1. Return all materials to their proper place at your lab station.
2. Return the machine to the Home position and shut down the Machining Center.
3. Complete the Inventory Checklist for your station.
2. List two (2) mistakes that commonly occur when entering a part program.
- The coordinate system is set at a wrong coordinate.
- Programmers set the wrong coordinate locations.
3. When entering a part program, the address characters must be typed as:
- Upper-case letters
In this experiment, the students were able to edit their own NC program. During the
activity, the students did not encounter any problems with the NC program. The students also
learned the effects of improper coding. The students were also able to answer all the questions in
this activity.
5. Conclusion
The objective of this experiment is to teach students how to edit an NC program. By the
end of this experiment, the students were able to edit an NC program on their own. The students
were also able to learn the effects of improper coding in the NC program and that the NC
program won’t be deleted unless the data of the computer is erased.
We recommend that all members of the group try the process indicated in the laboratory
manual to make sure that everyone knows how to edit an NC program.
