Late Work and Absences

A new concept is taught daily; therefore, students must attend class every day to succeed. In case of an absence,
students are responsible for obtaining the missing work and asking his or her shoulder partner for the notes missed
to be copied during warm up time or before/after class that day. All handouts are to be picked up from labeled
hanging folder by the door at the beginning of class. The student will have the same number of days to complete
missing assignments that he or she was absent. Students turning in work late for reasons other than an
excused absence will not receive full credit on the assignment.
1
A student enrolled in the Burbank Unified School District shall not be required to pay a student fee to participate in class, sports, and educational
activities. Additionally, students shall not be required to purchase supplies, materials, equipment, and uniforms as a basis to participate in classes,
sports, and educational activities.

Homework
Homework will be ASSIGNED DAILY and will include problems from that day’s lesson as
well as review problems from preceding chapters. To be successful, homework
completion is crucial and must be done by the following school day. Every Monday
students will be given the weekly homework calendar with all assignments and
important announcements for the week. Parents, your child will always receive written
and oral directions for all class work, homework, and tests. Homework calendars with
weekly announcements will also be posted on Google Classroom every Monday in case
calendars are lost. Homework will not be graded every day for completion however,
practice is extremely important to be successful in this course. Homework should be sees as
“PRACTICE FOR THE BIG GAME”. Just as athletes are assessed based on their performance in games and not in how they practice,
students will demonstrate their mastery on assessments, rather than homework. Homework is meant to be messy and difficult,
as often it is the first time students practice the new material outside the classroom.
For this. I will do regular “HOMEWORK QUICK CHECKS” to make sure students are mastering at the right pace.

Homework Quick Checks

At the start of each class, before students begin the warm up, I will display homework
solutions for students to check and correct their homework from the night before. These
homework solutions will also be posted on Google Classroom at the end of each week. Two to
three times a week, in place of a warm up, students will have pop-homework quick checks to
demonstrate they have completed and corrected their homework from the last week. These
quick checks will only be two problems and based on exact problems they were assigned in
the last week. Since homework will not be graded every day, these homework quick checks
allow me to assess that students are completing their homework and checking/correcting
their work. Homework quick checks will be worth 10 points and counted in the
Homework/Classwork category in the gradebook.

Chapter Quizzes Tests

In between chapters, students will be quizzed on Tests will be announced in weekly homework calendars, on our
material directly from notes and classwork. Quizzes will class website, and on the whiteboard. At the end of each
be announced in weekly homework calendars, on our chapter, students will be given a study guide for homework
class website, and on the whiteboard. Some quizzes will that is very similar to what the test questions will be. We will
be open-note where students can use anything done in spend a class day going over the entire study guide and any
class or homework for assistance while some quizzes additional questions so that students are well prepared for the
will be traditional and a quick assessment on what has content on the test. All students will have an opportunity to
been learned and practiced. All students have an correct mistakes on the test and earn back partial credit by
opportunity to correct mistakes on the chapter quizzes filling out the “Test Reflection Form” completely and accurately.
and earn back partial credit by filling out the “Quiz Students who receive below 70% are strongly encouraged to

Cheating
Academic dishonesty is defined as submitting someone else’s work as your own, allowing another student to copy your work or
class assignment, using any materials, from the internet without using proper citation, or changing a teacher’s records or
grades. Please refer to the student handbook for the full school policy.

NO WORK, NO CREDIT!!!!!
An answer alone is not acceptable. Even yes/no or true/false questions require you to show work.

Grading
Grades will be posted on the Aeries parent portal weekly. Students are responsible for completing and handing in all assignments
on time. Math homework will be assigned as needed to reinforce lessons and to complete class assignments. Quiz and test scores
are only raised if students complete the correct reflection forms completely and accurately. No extra credit assignments will be
given out to raise grades.

The grading categories are illustrated below:

Grading Scale
90-100% A
80-89% B
70-79% C
60-69% D

Class Dojo
This year, I’m using ClassDojo to encourage important
skills, like working hard and participating. ClassDojo is a
web-based program which allows teachers to track
students’ behaviors (positive AND negative) easily and
efficiently. The program is based on points, and
students can be given positive points for things like
being on task, being respectful, participating, or
working hard. On the other hand, points can be taken
away if students are off task, talking out, or
unprepared. I will use it to build a positive culture where students are engaged, encouraged, and love learning. After students have
been added to the system, there is an access code I will give to each student so that you and your child can log onto the app or
website. On the site, you will be able to see how many points your child has, which positive behaviors are noted, and which negative
behaviors they need to work on. Each time a student reaches 10 points, he or she will be able to pick a prize from the prize box,
including certificates to collect homework passes or extra credit.
