A. Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate understanding of charges and the different charging
processes
B. Learning Competencies:
Describe the different types of charging processes
(S7LT-IIIj-13)
Explain the importance of grounding or earthing
(S7LT-IIIj-14)
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the process of charging by induction
2. Explain the importance of grounding or earthing
3. Apply the phenomenon of polarization and grounding in charging an object by induction
II. CONTENT:
SCIENCE SKILLS:
• Describing , Explaining and Applying
Preparatory Activities:
Prayer:
Everybody, please stand. Let us pray (Students will recite the prayer)
(Call a student to lead the prayer)
Greetings:
Good morning class! Good morning, Ma’am!
Good morning Classmates!
Okay, before you sit down kindly pick up first
some pieces of papers under your chairs and
throw it in the trash can. (Students will pick up some trash)
Checking of Attendance:
Now, kindly go back to your seats and sit
properly.
Class monitor, are there any absent? No Ma’am. Everybody is present!
Before we start, let’s have a review first of -Last meeting, we had an activity on how an
our lesson last meeting. So, what did we object can be charged. We rubbed the comb in
discuss last meeting? a silk cloth and tried to attract the strips of
papers.
Very good! What do you call the process of -The process of charging an object through
charging an object through rubbing? rubbing is called charging by friction.
Alright. What happens when you rubbed the -When we rubbed the comb and place near
comb and placed it near the strips of paper? the paper strips, it sticks together.
Very good! Now, why are paper strips still -Paper strips are still attracted even if it is
attracted to a charged comb considering that neutral is because the charges within the
it is neutral? paper rearranges such that charged comb will
attract the opposite charge within the paper.
The phenomenon is known as polarization.
Excellent!!
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
(Distribute the activity sheet and the materials (Representatives will receive the activity
needed for the activity) sheet and the materials needed for the
activity)
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
I will give you one minute to read the procedure (the student will read the procedure silently)
silently.
(after one minute, call a student to read the
procedure aloud)
Do you understand now the procedures? Yes Ma’am!
Start working now! (The student will start working with their
activity)
(After the activity, Let the students present
their findings)
Guide Questions:
1. What do you think is the charge acquired -The cloth will give up electrons thus the
by the plastic rod after rubbing it against plastic rod will acquire a negative charge.
the cloth?
2. In which part of the activity did -Polarization occurred in step 3. When the
polarization occur? Explain how this charged plastic rod was placed near the
happened neutral electroscope, the charges within the
electroscope were rearranged in such a way
that the negative charges migrated towards
the edge of the electroscope that was farther
from the plastic rod.
3. Why aluminum strips at the bottom -Aluminum strips repelled each other
repelled each other? because it both acquire positive charge.
4. What is the purpose of touching the -The hand provided a path for negative
coiled wire in step #4? charges to move away from the electroscope
thus, when the hand was removed the can
was left with a net positive charge
5. In step #5, what happens to the -The aluminum strips repelled each other
aluminum strips when you removed the because some electrons exits through the
charged plastic rod and your finger? Why hand and there are now more proton than
is this so? electron
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Now class based from the activity that you -Based from the activity that we performed,
performed, how does an object becomes an object becomes charged through placing
charged? the charged object near but not touching the
(Call student from each group to answer the neutral object. The charges within the neutral
question) object rearranges such that charged object
will attract the opposite charge within the
neutral object.
Very well said! What do you call that -That phenomenon is known as polarization
phenomenon wherein charges within neutral
object rearranges and moves toward the end?
Excellent! Now, what happens to the excess -Excess electrons exit to the ground through
charges that does not attract the negatively touching the object making it positively
charged object? charge. The process is known grounding or
earthing.
So how can we apply the concept of charging Given that object can still be charged without
by induction in real life? direct contact, it is possible for the electrical
devices to charge wirelessly.
Again class, how can you describe the charging -Induction charging is a process wherein an
process by induction? object can be charged without actual contact
to any other charged object.
Very good! Now, how does polarization and -Polarization acts through rearranging the
grounding acts in charging an object by charges in neutral object such that charged
induction? object attracts the opposite charges within
the neutral object, while grounding acts
through touching the charged object to allow
excess electron to exit through the hand to
“the ground”.
