I.OBJECTIVES :
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to :
a. identify the 5S in environmental policies in using computer
b. explain the 5S in environmental policies in using computer
c. apply the 5S in environmental policies in using computer

Picture Analysis

The classes divided into 5 groups and give


the pictures.
Instructions: In the pictures you have
different steps applied what the person is
doing but before that , first answer the
following questions and after that arrange
the following steps given to each group.

Rubric : 1 correct answer is 1 point and


every correct steps is equivalent to 1 point.
TIME : Ten minutes group activity, post the
work and give additional points to the group
which is first to finish

5S will teach us how to organize work space for
efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and
storing the items used, maintaining the area and items
and sustaining new order.

1. SEIRI / SORT –
Purpose: tidiness, to ensure that
everything left in the workplace is related
to work, take out unnecessary items and
dispose.
Remember : Everything else is stored and
discarded
The more things you own ,
the more they own you

Steps on how to SORT things :

1. Decide what you need.


2.Remove unnecessary clutter. Throw away all
rubbish and unrelated materials in the workplace.
3.All tools and materials must be classified and
stored.
4.Remove items which are broken , unusable or
occasionally used.
2. SEITON / Set in order -
Purpose: Orderliness. To eliminate time wasted
in obtaining the necessary items when in the
middle of the task.

Remember : Less is usually more


Make sure that all things are eliminated from
your own workplace. Then think of what yhings
should be put where.

How to set things in order:


1. Once you have eliminated all unneeded items, turn
to the left over items.
2. Set everything in proper place for quick retrieval
and storage.
3. Arrange tools, parts and instructions in such a way
that the most frequently used items are the easiest and
quickest to locate.
4. Label each drawer / cup board to show what is
keep inside
3.SEISO / SHINE –
Purpose: Cleanliness, To know what goes where and
ensure that everything is where it belongs.
Remember : Everyone should be an overseer
Stow as you go

How to shine your things:

1.Clean the workspace and all equipment and keep it


clean tidy and organized.
2.Identify and eliminate causes of dirt and grime and
remove the need to clean.
3.At the end of each shift, clean the work area.
4.Be sure everything is restored on its place .
4. SEIKETSU / STANDARDIZE –
Purpose: To define the standards by which personal
must measure and maintain cleanliness
.
How to standardize
1.Simplify the way of maintaining cleanliness.
2.Develop procedures, schedules, and practices.
3.Continue to assess the use and disposal of items.
4.All employees doing the same job should be able to
work in any situation with the same tools that are in
the same location in every situation.

5.SHITSUKE / SUSTAIN –
Purpose : To maintain what has been accomplished
Steps on how to sustain the 4S
1.Maintain and review standards, once the previous
4s’s have been established , they become the new way
to operate.
2.Maintain focus on this new way and do not allow
gradual decline back to the old ways.

3.While thinking about the new way, also think better


ways.
4.When an issue arises such as a suggested
improvement, a new way of working, a new tool or a
new output requirement. review the 4s and make
changes.
