AGET (AQEEQ) & TURQUOISE (FEROZA)
QUALITIES AND ADVANTAGES

In general, Muslims are unaware of the unique qualities and advantages of wearing
the AGET (Aqeeq-e-Yamani) and the Turquoise (Feroza), the two most wonderful of
precious stones. These have been elicited and explained by the Holy Prophet of
Islam (May Peace Be Upon Him And His Decendants [PBUH]) and the A'imma-e-
Tahireen (the Pure Imams and the Ma'asoomeen) (May peace Be upon Them
[PBUT]) in their various sayings (HADITH) and Teachings. Due to lack of this
knowledge, one finds people wearing rings with all sorts of precious stones such as
diamonds, rubies, emeralds, etc., which in terms of utility, advantages, protection
and characteristics are literally ''valueless'' when compared to the qualities of the
AGET (Aqeeq) and the TURQUOISE (Feroza). For the information, knowledge and
benefit of our brother Momineen, this booklet lists some of the Sayings (Hadith) of
the Prophet and the Ma'asoomeen (PBUT), so that Momineen may also gain from
it by wearing these amazingly unique precious stones.
(1) A follower once approached the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and complained, "Ya
Rasool Allah, I went on a journey but was attacked by bandits who looted me
and ran away with all my belongings." The Holy Prophet (PBUH) looked at him
and replied, "Why did you not wear a ring with the AGET (Aqeeq) stone on
your hand when you went on the journey; for the AGET (Aqeeq) protects one
against all misfortune, calamity and loss."
(2) It is reported that Hazrat Ali {AS} once said, "Whosoever wears the AGET
(Aqeeq) ring on his hand will be blessed with peace and will die in tranquility
and in faith as a believer."
(3) Imam Ja'afar-e-Sadiq {AS} is reported to have once advised his followers and
Adherants saying, "Wear the AGET (Aqeeq) ring, for the AGET (Aqeeq) is a
stone which is mined from a mountain in Yemen which the first amongst stones
that accepted and witnessed Allah's Sovereignty, the Prophet's Prophethood,
and the ''wisa'at'' (for the right to being the true and only Heir or Vicegerant) of
Hazrat Ali {AS}."
(4) It has been recorded that a Syed arrested by the police of a tyrant king
happened to pass in front of the residence of Imam Ja'afar-e-Sadiq {AS}. On

 seeing this the Imam {AS} said to his companions, "One of you please go and
give the unfortunate man an AGET (Aqeeq) ring." One of the followers did the
Imam {AS},s bidding and gave the Syed an AGET (Aqeeq) ring. Shortly
thereafter, the companions saw the Syed pass the house on his way back,
free and unharmed.
(5) It is reported by Suleman A'amash, one of the close adherants and
companions of Imam Ja'afar-e-Sadiq {AS} that one day, when in company
with the Imam {AS} and his other followers, he was standing in front of the
gate of the Paface of the Abbasid Caliph Mansoor, when they saw some
soldiers escort out a badly injured man who had been mercilessly flogged.
Suleman reports that on seeing this, the Imam {AS} addressed me and said,
"Oh Suleman, please go forward and see which stone is on the ring that the
man is wearing." I complied with the Imam {AS}'s wish, went and saw the ring,
returned to the presence of the Imam {AS}, and reported that the stone on the
ring the unfortunate man was wearing was not an AGET (Aqeeq) but some
other stone. The Imam {AS} observed, "Had he worn the AGET (Aqeeq) ring,
he would not have been flogged!"
On my plea that the Imam {AS} explain further he said, "Suleman, the AGET
(Aqeeq) is protection against the cutting of the hand."
Suleman requested the Imam {AS} to enlighten him further, and Imam Ja'afar-
e-Sadiq {AS} continued, "Oh Suleman, the AGET (Aqeeq) prevents injury or
the wasting of blood.
My curiosity and desire for more knowledge prompted me to urge the Imam
{AS} to throw more light on the qualities of the AGET (Aqeeq), and the Imam
{AS} said, "Suleman, it pleases Allah when the hand raised in supplication and
prayer to His Mercy and Beneficience, is wearing on AGET (Aqeeq) ring." The
Imam {AS} further said, "It surprises me and astonishes me to see how a hand
that wears an AGET (Aqeeq) ring can be wanting or deprived of plenty."
The Imam {AS}, on my request to advise me further, said, "Ya Suleman, the
AGET (Aqeeq) is protection against all evil and ill; it ensures freedom from
Want and Deprivation."

Suleman reports that he then sought the Imam {AS}'s permission to report
that this Hadith or Saying was handed down to the Imam {AS} from his
eminent and great forefather Imam Husain {AS}. The Imam {AS} replied, "Yes,
Ya Suleman, you may reveal this as the Truth."
(6) Imam Ja'afar-e-Sadiq {AS} is reported as once having said that, ''The AGET
(Aqeeq) worn by the traveller protects him from all dangers and misfortunes."
1 Notes: It is important to note that from various other Sayings and Hadith of the
1 Ma'asoomeen, it is revealed that the AGET (Aqeeq), whose unique
characteristics and benefits the above Sayings of the Ma'asoomeen
detail, must possess the following three characteristics and qualities:
(a) The AGET (Aqeeq) worn should be a "Yemeni" AGET (Aqeeq), or
from Yemen;
(b) The AGET (Aqeeq) worn should be RED;
(c) The AGET (Aqeeq) worn should be rounded
The following Hadith (Sayings) of the Holy Prophet {PBUH} and the Ma'asoomeen
{PBUT} shed further light on and confirm these qualities.
(1) It is reported that the Holy Prophet of Islam {PBUH} was once speaking on the
many and varied benefits and advantageous characteristics of wearing the
AGET (Aqeeq), when Hazrat Ali {AS} enquired of the Holy Prophet {PBUH},
"Ya Rasool Allah, what is the AGET (Aqeeq)?" The Prophet of Islam {PBUH}
replied, "Ya Ali, the AGET (Aqeeq) is a precious stone found in the mountains
of Yemen."
(2) Hazrat Ali {AS} is reported to have once enquired of the Holy Prophet of Islam
J {PBUH}, "Ya Rasool Allah, what do you recommend is the best for me to wear
1 on my hand?" The Prophet of Islam {PBUH} replied, "Ali, wear a RED AGET
(Aqeeq)."
(3) AIIama Shaikh Hurr A'amily has reported in his Book of Hadith (Page 394,
Volume 3) that the stone set in a ring should be rounded, since the Holy
Prophet {PBUH} always wore rings with rounded Stones.
 AHADITH (SAYINGS) REGARDING
THE TURQUOISE (FEROZA)

"Oh my Lord, leave me not without offspring, though Thou Art the Best of
(1) The Holy Prophet of Islam {PBUH} is reported to have once said, "Allah
Inheritors" (Sura 21, Ayat 89 Sura-e-Ambia'a, Holy Quran.)
Almighty, the Merciful and Beneficient, Wishes that His creatures, when they
raise their hands in Prayer to Him, should be wearing a TURQUOISE
and wear this ring. Allah, the Magnanimous will bless you and grant you your
(Feroza); for when hands so adorned are raised in supplication to his Mercy
desire."
and Beneficienc~J.. even Allah finds it difficult to reject the Prayer."

Mohammed reports that he complied with the Imam {AS}'s instructions, and
not a year had passed when he was blessed with a son.
(2) Imam Ja'afar-e-Sadiq {AS} is reported to have said to his Followers and
Adherants, ''Those hands on which there is TURQUOISE (Feroza) ring will
never want for anything ..... never be poor or deprived."

in the presence of the Blessed Imam {AS}, and observed that the Imam {AS}
was wearing a ring. On noticing my interest, the Imam {AS} asked me, "Oh Ali,
(1) MUKAARIMUL IKHLAQ, by AIIama Hasan Bin Fazal Tibrizi (Page 87).
what is the name of the stone I am wearing on my ring?" I replied, "Ya Imam,
it is a TURQUOISE (Feroza)." (2) SAFEENATUL BAHAAR, by Shaikh Abbas Qummi (page 213, Volume 2).

(3) WASAA'II AS SHIA'A, by Shaikh Hurr A'amili (Page 406, Volume 3).

The blessed Imam {AS} said ''That, Ali, what is it called in Persian, Please tell
me its Arabic name." When I expressed my ignorance, the Imam {AS} said,
"My dear Ali, in Arabic, this unique precious stone is called the "ZAFAR",
which means "success"; so that it means that if one wears a genuine (real)
TURQUOISE (Zafar) on the hand, Allah blesses him with complete success
in all that he wishes to achieve and undertakes to do."
Note: It is stated in, and proved and confirmed by various Ahadith (Sayings) of the
Holy Prophet and the Ma'asoomeen {PBUT) that a ring may also be worn
on the left hand; but it is better that it be worn on the right hand. This is
primarily because in Arabic the right hand is called the "Yameen", and in the
Quran "Ashaab-e-Yemeen", are the Momineen, the Doers of "Good", the
"pious", and the Righteous. Hazrat Ali {AS} is the Imam of the "Ashaab-e-
Yameen", and he also always wore rings on his right hand.

(4) It is reported that Mohammed Sabmari, a close companion and adherant of
Imam Ali Naqi {AS}, once went into the presence of the Imam {AS}, and said,
"Ya Imam {AS}, I am deprived of offspring and heirs". On hearing this the
Imam {AS} smiled and said, "My dear Mohammed, procure a ring with a
TURQUOISE (Feroza), inscribe the following Ayat (Quranic Verse) on it,
Also to be noted is that the Male should only wear a silver ring and that Islam
does not allow him to wear GOld. The AGET (Aqeeq) and the TURQUOISE
(Feroza) rings for men should always thus be set in Silver and never in Gold.
