2018 Annual Statistical Report
T he Winnipeg Police Service

HIGHLIGHTS
2018 Annual Statistical
Report shows that property
crimes continue to increase.
I believe the reason behind
the increase is still in large
part due to the growing use
of methamphetamine in our
community. Enhancements to Population vs. 800 000 1500

# Authorized Police Officers

our online reporting system Police Officers 1450

Population Winnipeg
have increased the ability of 750 000
people to report these crimes Population Winnipeg 1400

We are adapting to meet this challenge and in 2018
we created a centralized Drug Enforcement Unit to 650 000 1300
2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018
proactively investigate the illicit drug trade. Addiction
issues, property crimes and acts of violence are often
a result of drug subculture. One of the primary goals of
the Organized Crime Division is to disrupt the illicit drug
215
market with the intent to reduce crime and victimization. Police Officers / 205
We will continue to work on longer term objectives in 100 000 Population 195
2019, including a refined effort to focus on curtailing 185
gang activity through education, prevention, 175 212.3 211.0 200.5 196.7 191.6 181.4
intervention and suppression initiatives. We also 165
look toward dealing with new policing demands and 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018
challenges by developing innovative approaches and
partnerships to address the continuing rise in calls for
service.
Working together, we will promote A Culture of Safety
for All.
