A CHICANO NOVELIST, SHORT STORY WRITER, AND ESSAYIST READING AND BOOK SIGNING SATURDAY AUGUST 3 2PM-3:30PM CENTRAL LIBRARY LATINO COLLECTION AND RESOURCE CENTER 600 Soledad St., 78205 Join us for a reading of “Sex as a Political Condition, A Border Novel” with author Carlos Nicolás Flores, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Holly Dysktra on “Feminism and the Macho.” Carlos Nicolás Flores—a Chicano novelist, short story writer, and essayist—has taught courses in English composition at Laredo College for many years. In the 1970’s his decision to teach a course on Black and Chicano literature led to a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship at Dartmouth College, where he embarked on a study entitled “A Chicano Looks at a Black: A Comparison and Contrast of Chicano and Black Literature.” In 2003, an early draft of his novel, “Sex as Political Condition,” CARL OS N ICOLÁ won a third Place Chicano/Latino Literary S FLO RES Prize award in Irving, California; it was published in 2015 by Texas Tech AUTHOR CARLOS NICOLÁS FLORES University Press. 2019
