11.1 Face to Face / End to End dimension of valves shall conform to B16.

10 to the
extent covered. For valves not covered in B16.10, reference shall be made to BS EN
12627:1999 and / or the manufacturer's drawings.
11.2 Flange / weld ends of the valve shall be as per the corresponding Flange /
Fitting ends of the piping class, unless otherwise specified.

11.3 Pressure-temperature rating for flanged and butt welding end

valves shall be as per ASME B16.34 except for ball, plug & butterfly valves. For
these valves refer TABLE FOR PRESSURE- TEMP RATING FOR BALL, PLUG AND BUTTERFLY
VALVES. Wall thickness of valve body at different locations should not be less
than as calculated as per B16.34.
11.4 Unless called-out specifically, valves shall be as per the following
Standards:

11.5 If not covered in above table, the valve shall be as per B16.34 / relevant
MSS- SP Standard.
11.6 Unless otherwise specifically called for, upto 600# rating, 2" and larger
size steel Gate, Globe & Check valves in Hydrocarbon and utility service
shall have bolted bonnets. Pressure-seal bonnets or covers shall be used for
Classes 900# and above to minimize bonnet leakage. However, valves with Pr-seal
Bonnet shall have wall thickness & stem diameter as per API 600, (if required).
Welded bonnets or screwed & seal welded bonnets are acceptable for sizes
lower than 2" for Classes 900# and above.

12.0 TAGGING AND IDENTIFICATION PHILOSOPHY

3.1 LINE NUMBERING
3.1.1 Following line numbering procedure shall be followed:
Plant Area (optional field) is 4 characters and subject to project specific
requirement, and to be taken from General Specifications Site Conditions (Doc.
No. Section B1 of Volume II).
Size mm is 4 characters maximum; represents nominal diameter for metal
materials and nominal outer diameter for non-metal materials
Service Code is 3 characters maximum, as indicated in TABLE 2.
Sequential Number is a unique number assigned for a particular line.
Specification Code is 7 characters maximum, the first 3 or 4 characters shall
represent the pressure class, e.g. 150, 300, 600, 1500, etc.; subsequent two
characters shall represent the abbreviation of material code as indicated in TABLE
1; and last 1 character shall indicate the unique serial number for the
particular material.
Insulation code is 5 characters maximum, first 2 characteristics shall be as
per Cl. No. 3.3.1; and subsequent 2 or 3 characters are numbers, representing the
thickness of insulation in mm.

3.1.2 Line uniqueness is determined by the combination of service code and

sequential number. A line can have only one material, but may pass through multiple
areas. Line insulation cladding material may change with area.

3.2 VALVE NUMBERING

Valve identification shall be as per General Specification Valves (Doc. No.
VOLUME III: PART B SECTION: C14).
3.3 INSULATION CODE
3.3.1 The following pipe insulation codes are to be used as part of the line
number:

 IT Heat tracing
 IS Solar insulation
 IH Thermal insulation Hot
 IC Thermal insulation Cold
 IP Insulation for personal protection
3.3.2 If no insulation designation is assigned in the line number then no
insulation is required.

4.0 LINE SIZES

4.1 STEEL
4.1.1 The following nominal diameter (DN) sizes shall be used for steel piping.
Intermediate sizes shall not be used except as noted below and where vendor
equipment dictates otherwise or to prevent either deposition of material from
insufficient line velocity or excessive erosion from excessive line velocity in the
case of slurry lines. In such cases, vendor shall obtain prior written approval
Owner / Consultant.
