A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

I. Learning Objectives
1. Visualize the different spatial figures
2. Identify the different spatial figures: sphere, cylinder, cube, cone and pyramid
3. Draw the different spatial figures

II. Learning Content

Skills: Visualizing the different spatial figures
References: PELC 1.1 page 20
Lesson Guide in Elementary Mathematics Grade 6 pp. 360-363
Materials: visual aid, video, paper bag with real objects, cut-outs, pictures

III. Learning Experiences

Teacher's Activity Pupil's Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Song
Start the lesson with singing a song "Shapes Song"
2. Drill
(Using cut outs)
Class I have here a drill exercise for you to answer.
Identify the shapes of the following figures.

Triangle
Hexagon
Pentagon
Rectangle
3. Review
(Guessing Game)
Now let's have a game.
Can you guess what polygon was described?

I am a shape with three corners and three sides

Who am I? Triangle

I am a polygon with four sides who am I? Quadrilateral

I have eight corners and eight sides who am I? Octagon

I am a shape with nine corners and nine sides

Who am I? Nonagon
B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation
Class I have here a paper bag with different objects inside. As I call your name,
would you please pick up an object inside then tell something about it.

(ball) It is round in shape.

(funnel) It looks like a triangle.
(cup) The top and bottom is circle.
(puzzle cube) It is colorful, square in shape.

2. Presentation
Alright, Class those objects represent a model of spatial figures. Let's find out
what are spatial figures all about by watching this video.

3. Discussion
What are spatial figures mentioned in the video? The spatial figures mentioned in
the video are sphere, cylinder, cube,
cone and pyramid

What are some examples of each spatial figures

you see in the video presentation? Cube - ex. Dice, Christmas gift, box,
ice cube, sugar cube, blocks
Cone - ex. Ice cream cone, pencil tip,
birthday hat, megaphone, funnel,
traffic cone
Cylinder - ex. Soda can, pencil shaft,
can of soup, marker, glass peanut
butter jar
Sphere - ex. Baseball, moon, orange,
basketball, earth, marbles
Pyramid - ex. Paperweight, pyramid
tent
Describe each spatial figure. Cube - solid figure whose six faces are square.
Cone - Solid figure has one circular base.
Cylinder - solid figure with two congruent circular bases.
Sphere - a round solid figure and has 0 flat surface.
Pyramid - has one bade, the other faces are triangular
regions.

Can you give your own example for each spatial figures?

4. Generalization
What is spatial figure means?
Spatial figures are three dimensional figure means space or solid figures.
What are spatial figures that now you've know?
5. Practice Exercise
(Through pictures)
Can you identify what spatial figure represents the following pictures

(orange) sphere
(can) cylinder
(dice) cube
(hat) cone
(tent) pyramid

6. Application
Direction: Name the spatial figures that resemble the following objects below.
1. Globe
2. Tin can
3. Ice cream cone
4. Tent
5. Gift

IV. Evaluation
Alright, now you've readiy to have a group activity. Draw an object that resembles the
Spatial Figures assigned on your group.
Group I Cylinder
Group II Sphere
Group III Cone
Group IV Pyramid
Group V Cube
Value Focus : Who has the best work? What traits do they have to make their present best
work?

V. Assignment
Choose any of the following spatial figures and construct it using colored paper.
1. Blue - Pyramid
2. Orange - Cube
3. Red - Cylinder
4. Yellow - Sphere
5. Green - Cone
