ORPHEUS

Narrator: There were nine goddesses called Muses. Born of Zeus and a titan named Mnemosyne, each
muse presided over a different art or science. Calliope, one of these sisters, was the inspiration of poets
and musicians . She was the mother of Orpheus and gave to her son a remarkable talent for music.

Start of Rewrite the Stars 0:00 – 1:13*

Instrumental: *enters Calliope and batang Orpheus*

Calliope: Ohhh. Let’s hear it then.

*after chorus, stay sa stage si Orpheus and exit Eurydice then magsasalita si narrator*

Narrator: Orpheus played his lyre (kuha ng gitara si Orpheus then magplay pero) so sweetly that he
charmed all things on earth. Men and women forgot their cares when they gathered around him to
listen. (enter extra characters: maaamaze sila sa pagtugtog ni Orpheus ng gitara) Wild beats lay down
as if they were tame, entranced by his soothing notes. Even rocks and trees followed him, and the rivers
changed their directions to hear him play.
Calliope: That is so wonderful, son. I am really proud of you. And dear son, I want you to use the talent
that you inherited from me, in the best way you can use it.

Orpheus: Of course, Mom!

*after ni narrator and after matapos nung music , magbow si jabez sa mga extra characters then
papalakpakan siya then exit extra characters*

*stay sa stage si Orpheus then magpiplay ang “At last I see the light”*

NARRATOR: Orpheus loved a young woman named eurydice. (enter Eurydice)

*Hindi lalapit si Eurydice kay Orpheus. Tititigan lang ni Orpheus si Eurydice (LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT) until
matapos yung song but kakanta si Orpheus habang tinititigan si Eurydice while Eurydice natingin lang
sad lowers na hawak nya*

Orpheus: Wow, you’re very beautiful.

Eurydice: *blushing* Uh-hm, thank you. *hawi ng hair and then yuko (shy)*

Orpheus: *came with an idea of singing a song for Eurydice, kuha ng guitar then kumanta* Your beauty
makes me want to sing a song for you.

Eurydice: *blushing while Orpheus is singing*

-END NG PAGKANTA NI ORPHEUS then he knelt down and kissed eurydice’s back hand-

Eurydice: Thank you, your beautiful song warms my heart.

*nagusap sila hanggang maggagabi na*

-START NG SONG NA ARAW GABI- (di na kakantahin ni Oprheus)

Orpheus: I think its time for us to be more than friends, because as you can see. We already have a
mutual understanding for each other and even comfortable with one another. So you have something to
say?

Eurydice: Yes!

*Orpheus and Eurydice became together*

*harutan moments dahil magjowa na sila then nagpropose si Orpheus kay Eurydice (no dialogues
needed, iact lang nila) Eurydice will agree to their marriage, they will hug each other, look at the ring
happily, insert some sweet moments until the song ends*

- END NG BACKGROUND SONG-

* ididivide yung stage into two, one for the proposal and one for the wedding setting so after magend ng
background song, Eurydice and Orpheus will transfer to the wedding setting*

- A THOUSAND YEARS -

*extra characters – abay, magpapatong ng dress kay Eurydice and kay Orpheus (good for 5 seconds
only)*

*lakas si Eurydice sa aisle*

*after matanggal yung damit, Eurydice and Orpheus will transfer to the next setting which is just a long
chair*

Narrator: (*happy and sweet moments of the newlyweds*) Orpheus and Eurydice were very happy after
getting married. They look forward to many years of happiness together but Love is not just about
happiness (exit Orpheus, stay Eurydice sa stage) no matter how strong their relationship is, challenges
will come through their way.

*Eurydice is running from a man, ( EXTRA CHARACTER WILL SHOUT EURYDICE’S NAME) she was looking
at her back so she did not notice the snake at her front, si snake ay nakatayo, natapilok si Eurydice
kasama yung snake*

EX: Eurydice!!!! You are mine! You cannot escape from me ever again!! *mashoshookt, matatakot sip b
tatakbo tatalon sisigaw ng orpheus*

*maririnig ni Orpheus si Eurydice kaso patay na si gurl nung dumating sya*

- START NG EVERGLOW BY COLDPLAY (no need kantahin ni Orpheus) -

Orpheus: No, my love! This can’t be true! This must be a dream! No, you cant die. No Eurydice, my love.

Narrator: But Eurydice stepped on a poisionous snake and died.

*lalapit si Orpheus sa body ni Eurydice then magsesenti*

*bg music continues while Orpheus is crying*

Orpheus: No mortal has even been in the underworld before but I must try to bring back my beloved
Eurydice. I will charm Persephone and Hades with my music and win Eurydice’s release.

Narrator: He climbed into a cave and through a dark passage that led to underworld. When he reached
the gate of the underworld, he bagan to strum his guitar. The music was so charming and heavenly that
the three headed dog, Cerberus laid down and as Orpheus passed the gate.

*pumunta sya sa river ng styx*

*pinatugtog nya yung guitar nya*

*Charon rowed him across dahil naamze sa singing talent ni Orpheus*

*he plays his lyre again until Charon heard him (Charon (grim reaper with scythe)

Narrator: Charon, the ferry captain who charged dead souls just to cross the river styx was moved by
the music that he brought Orpheus across with free charge.

Charon: Do you dare to cross the river sticks?

Orpheus: Yes, I have to talk to Hades and Persephone at once! For i have lost the woman that would
make my life complete.

Charon: If you want to cross this river, I can take you with me on this boat but it will cost one dead soul
from you.
Charon: Very well.

(Jabez continues to play the lyre and Charon took Jabez to the palace free of charge)

*pinatugtog nya ulit guitar nya then narinig sya ni Cerberus (3 headed wolf or dog)*

Narrator: Cerberus, the three headed dog

Cerberus: What is it that you wish to do son of Apollo?

Orpheus: I will come and talk to Hades and Persephone this instance, for i have lost my loving and only
love.

Cerberus: And that is?

Orpheus: Eurydice, she was, and will always be the biggest fan of my music. The passion she showed for
my songs often made me jealous myself.

Cerberus: If you’re planning to trespass to talk with Hades, You’d have to go through me.

*Orpheus sing and plays lyre at the same time making the three-headed god fall asleep*

*until he reaches hades and persophone*

Hades: Who comes uninvited to my kingdom?

Orpheus: Im Orpheus, king of thrace, son of Calliope.

Hades: And why does king of orpehsu seek Hades?

Orpheus: So now, before you judgement, Eurydice my wife.

Hades: No souls return from my kingdom. They will all stay here in the underworld.

Orpheus: Love is stronger than death.

Hades: *evil laugh*

*Orpheus plays guitar*

Hades: fear me, I am the gold audience at the theatre, I knock at the door when you least expected it. I
am the one whose name must not be spoken for fear I hear it and sit next to you.

Narrator: But Orpheus wouldn’t give up on bringing back Eurydice.

*Orpheus plays guitar again*

Persophone: He will not listen or if he pretends to listen, he’ll just lie. Oh death chose me each year,
mankind enjoys the winter while I stay here because he tricked me long ago. Even Zeus was powerless
to even change it.

*Orpheus still continue strumming his guitar*

Narrator: Still, Orpheus kept on playing but Hades is dead to even understand the beauty of the music
that was being played, thus Persophone was moved by the unbearable sense.
Persophone: Everything and everyone will have no choice but to die Orpheus, even the rocks, the
planet itself will eventually be eaten away by time itself. Everything must die Orpheus.

Orpheus: To live again, people think of death as an absence isn’t going to last forever, not while there
are still lives left around the world. It is only cold in the earth for 6 months.

Hades: Death, is unimpressed.

*tumayo and lumuhod si Persophone*

Persophone: Husband, I pray to you. I am begging you, give us this soul to Orpheus.

Hades: *Sarcastic laugh* very well, pathetic musician. Take your loved one, take her out of the
underworld but you must follow these things I have to state. You must always walk ahead of her do look
back to see if she is following, for if you even try to turn around to look at her, she will be mine once
again. You will lose her forever and she will be trapped in the underworld forever.

Hades: Do you hear me?

*Orpheus nods*

Narrator: Orpheus then began to climb, with each step, he worried more and more whether Eurydice
was behind him.

Orpheus: I understand. And I am forever grateful to you King Hades and Queen Persephone for letting
me have my wife back.

*They started walking*

Orpheus: *habang naglalakad sila* Let's go back to earth, my love.

*Eurydice smiled kahit di siya nakikita ni Orpheus*

They both walked through the dark passage and then they reached the cave

Orpheus: I can see daylight ahead. We are almost there

*Nakatungo at Masayang nilalakad hanggang sa labasan ng cave*

*As Orpheus pass the light of the earth. he take a glimpse of Eurydice if she was still following until*

Eurydice: (terrifying reaction about/ screams) 'parang may humihila sa kanya pababa. NOOOOOO!

Orpheus: (tryin to save eurydice) hold tight were almost there we cannot just give up here!

Eurydice: ( getting swallowed by darkness ) cries* murmurs* Farewell, my love. –START NG SONG NA \

*tuluyang hinigop si Eurydice*

-ORPHEUS SANG THE SONG HEAVEN KNOWS-

Narrator: Orpheus tried to return to the underworld but was refused to do so. Separated from Eurydice,
Orpheus swore to never love any girl again. Instead, he just sat in a grove of trees and sang songs of
lovers. For some, however, poetry wasn’t enough. A group of women called fury couldn’t bear the
thought that a poet who sang so heavenly of love would not even try to love them. Their jealousy drove
them to a frenzy and they assassinated poor Orpheus. The world had lost two great souls. While the
world wept, Orpheus found peace and his other half in the underworld. There until this day, he walks
with Eurydice along the banks of the river Styx.
