RATIONALE
The City Government of Balanga thru the City Agriculture Office is intensifying its
effort to implement the GO Organic, GO Sustansiya Program. Organic farming is a system of
agriculture that uses environmentally sound techniques for raising crops and livestock that are
free from chemicals that are harmful to humans and environment. The technology used in
organic farming seeks to increase long term soil fertility, balance insect and organism
populations and reduce air, soil and water pollution while maintaining or increasing levels of
production. This initiative supports the food security, poverty alleviation, nutrition and
healthy lifestyle program of the city by way of providing safe and healthy food to the
community at a lower cost.

OBJECTIVES

Generally, the training aims to equip the participants with appropriate knowledge and
techniques on organic agriculture.

Specifically, at the end of the course the participants will be able to:

1. Adapt the Organic Farming Practices and implement it to 25 barangays;


2. Maintain the KAANIB Demo Site and Livelihood Training Center situated at the City
Slaughterhouse;
3. Establish a composting site for every barangay to sustain organic agriculture program;
4. Increase the numbers of KAANIB sites in every barangay;
5. Maximize their knowledge and skills through the conduct of demos on organic
fertilizer production in different barangays and assist organic practitioners to sustain
the operation of KAANIB gardens in every barangay.

COURSE CONTENT
1. Introduction to Organic Farming
2. Philippine National Standard on Organic Agriculture
3. Production of organic fertilizer

METHODOLOGY
The training course will employ participatory learning method such as lecture and
discussion, practicum and open forum. Topics and modules of the training course will be
prepared and discussed by the assigned resource person and will be presented through
powerpoint presentation. Hand outs will be provided to the participants after the
lecture/discussion.

PARTICIPANTS
The participants of the two (2) days live out training will be fifty (50) Committee
Chairmen of Agriculture and Environment in 25 barangays of City of Balanga.
