A NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE FRANCISCO P. FELIX MEMORIAL NATONAL HIGH

SCHOOL TEACHERS’ SEMESTRAL BREAK IN-SERVICE TRAINING 2018

I. Executive Summary

The Francisco P. Felix Memorial National High School (FPFMNHS)

organized a two-day In-Service training last October 23-24, 2018 at Cainta
Auditorium led by Dr. Reynante V. Flandez, the principal. The event aimed to give
information to all FPFMHS teachers about stress management, how to handle their
finances, to learn how to teach different kinds of students and to uplift their
spiritual development.

The program started by an invocation led by Mr. Orlina, G9 AP teacher

followed by the singing of the national anthem conducted by Mrs. Saberon, G9
MAPEH teacher. Dr. Reynante V. Flandez, gave a welcome remarks and Mr.
Geromo, G7 MAPEH teacher presented and had a roll call of the participating
teachers of FPFMNHS.

Day one of the in-set, the session started with a talk about financial
management. The speaker gave importance on saving for the future and the
significance of managing one’s expenses. She emphasized that it is not wise to
spend more than what one’s earn so that he/she will have something to save to
have the good life that he/she wished for in the coming years. The highlight of the
session was an activity that would determine if an individual was doing a right
thing in bridging his/her savings gap.

Moreover, the second session of the program was very helpful and
informative because the speaker discussed how teachers can manage their
stress because we all know that in the field of teaching, educators were really
exposed to different kinds of stress and it is very important that they know how to
handle stresses to keep them fit to their job and avoid diseases that it may cause.

Dr. Marjorie Z Rondilla, the very dynamic speaker, said that stress is a part of
our everyday life that is the result of major changes one must adapt. She pointed
out that the sources of stress can be triggered from the following:
 Environment; bad weather conditions, pollen, traffic
 Social; work, school, friends, finances
 Physiological; body changes, inadequate sleep, illness
 Thoughts; interpretation (irrational thinking)

Dr. Rondilla said that for an individual to handle stress, he/she must not take
things seriously and do not procrastinate to avoid bulk of work and for him/her to
beat his/her deadlines on time. She also gave an activity that helped teachers to
cope up with the different stresses that they had encountered.
On the second day of the in-set, the session started with a very meaningful
discussion about how learners learn led by Dr. Flandez. He clearly explained that
learners learn by the following:
 Hands on Activities
 Collaborative Activities
 Freedom to take control of their learning
 Assistance to create learning goals which are consistent with their interest and
aspirations

Aside from the information stated above learners also learned from social
participation, exposing students to meaningful activities, relating information to
prior knowledge, being strategic, engaging in self-regulations and being
reflective, restructuring prior knowledge, aiming towards understanding rather
than memorization, helping students to learn to transfer and taking time to
practice.

The facts that Dr. Flandez had shared were indeed helpful to all the
teachers which helped them to know what the needs of the students for them to
learn not just by the things they had read from books but also from their
experiences and the things that surrounded them.

The second session of the second day of in-set started with a spiritual
development that focused on the life journey and knowing oneself emphasizing
that each one is lovable and capable. The spiritual ended with a prayer and
forgiving each other’s shortcoming and by saying sorry to the things that they had
done that causes misunderstanding and hatred.

The program ended with the awarding of certificates to all who

participated in that very momentous event.

II. Implication

In-service training (INSET) is a school- based seminar workshop

regarding the needs of all teachers in improving their methods, classroom
management, professional growth and development and skills enhancement
towards the upliftment of student-centered learning.

The conduct of this program greatly affects all the teachers of

FPFMNHS. It gives a wide range of knowledge about what educators must learn
and possess to become proficient teachers. Like in the different topics that were
discussed by the expert speakers on how to manage finances and how to handle
stress. These topics really open the minds of the teachers to save money and not
to indulge in different loaning company that will pave a way to become
financially unstable. Teachers must secure their future by saving some part of their
salaries and not to spend too much of what they were earning. They also learn
how to handle different stress around them that make them mentally fit. These
implications really bring all teachers to the right path leading them to become
future leaders in education.
