ROMANCE
´Romance comes from Anglo-Norman and Old French
“romanz” which means a story of chivalry and love.
´It means romantic stories with chivalrous feats of
heroes and knights. Romance describes chivalry and
courtly love, comprising stories and legends of duty,
courage, boldness, battles, and rescues of damsels in
distress
´A thriving genre of works conventionally referred to as
"romance novels" existed in ancient Greece.

SAGA
´Sagas are stories mostly about
ancient Nordic and Germanic history,
early Viking voyages, the battles that took
place during the voyages, and migration
to Iceland and of feuds between Icelandic
families. They were written in the Old
Norse language, mainly in Iceland.
FAMILY SAGA

´It is a genre of literature which chronicles the lives


and doings of a family or a number of related or
interconnected families over a period of time. In
novels (or sometimes sequences of novels) with a
serious intent, this is often a thematic device used
to portray particular historical events, changes of
social circumstances, or the ebb and flow of
fortunes from a multitude of perspectives.
SATIRE
´It is a genre of literature, and
sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices,
follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule,
ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations,
government, or society itself into improvement.

´ Although satire is usually meant to be humorous, its


greater purpose is often constructive social criticism,
using wit to draw attention to both particular and wider
issues in society.
SCIENCE FICTION
´Science fiction (sometimes called Sci-Fi) is
a genre of speculative fiction that has been called the
"literature of ideas".
´ It typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts
such as advanced science and technology, time
travel, parallel universes, fictional worlds, space
exploration, and extraterrestrial life.
´It often explores the potential consequences of scientific
innovations.
SPECULATIVE
´It is an umbrella genre encompassing fiction with
certain elements that do not exist in the real world,
often in the context of supernatural, futuristic or
other imaginative themes.
´ This includes, but is not limited to, science
fiction, fantasy, superhero fiction, horror, utopian
and dystopian fiction, fairytale fantasy, supernatural
fiction.

some contradictions of the
commonplace natural
world and materialist assumptions
about it.
SUPERHERO FICTION
´It is a genre of speculative fiction examining
the adventures, personalities and ethics of costumed
crime fighters known as superheroes, who often
possess superhuman powers and battle similarly
powered criminals known as supervillains.
´ The genre primarily falls between hard fantasy and soft
science fiction spectrum of scientific realism. It is most
commonly associated with American comic books, though
it has expanded into other media through adaptations and
original works.
UTOPIAN FICTION

´Takes place in a highly desirable


society, often presented as
advanced, happy, intelligent or even
perfect or problem-free.
DYSTOPIAN FICTION
´Takes place in a highly undesirable
society, often plagued with strict
control, violence, chaos,
brainwashing or other negative
elements.
WEIRD FICTION
´It is a subgenre of speculative fiction originating
in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
´ John Clute defines weird fiction as a "Term
used loosely to describe Fantasy, Supernatural
Fiction and Horror tales embodying
transgressive material"
THRILLER
´It is a broad genre of literature, film and
television, having numerous, often overlapping
subgenres. Thrillers are characterized and
defined by the moods they elicit, giving
viewers heightened feelings
of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation
and anxiety.

DISASTER THRILLER
´Disaster thriller fiction genre contain events that
cause peril to mankind through a natural disaster,
terrorist attack, or epidemic.
´This stories involve people who are trying to
survive the best way they can, often also trying to
save as many people as possible from the event
or causes of the event that would kill them
otherwise.
PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
´It is a thriller narrative which emphasizes the
unstable or delusional psychological states of its
characters.
´ It is often told through the viewpoint of
psychologically stressed characters, revealing
their distorted mental perceptions and focusing on
the complex and often tortured relationships
between obsessive and pathological characters.
CRIME THRILLER
´In the broadest sense, are a cinematic
genre inspired by and analogous to
the crime fiction literary genre. Films of
this genre generally involve various
aspects of crime and its detection.
TECHNO-THRILLER
´A techno-thriller (also known as technothrillers)
is a hybrid genre drawing from science
fiction, thrillers, spy fiction, action, and war
novels. They include a disproportionate amount
(relative to other genres) of technical details on
their subject matter (typically military
technology)
URBAN
´Also known as street lit or street fiction is a literary
genre set in a city landscape; however, the genre is as much
defined by the socio-economic realities and culture of its
characters as the urban setting.
´ The tone for urban fiction is usually dark, focusing on the
underside of city living.
´Profanity, sex, and violence are usually explicit, with the
writer not shying away from or watering-down the material.
Most authors of this genre draw upon their past experiences
to depict their storylines
