3. Reading: Multiple-Choice Reading (15 minutes) – Questions 14-20
You will read the blog entry of a concert organiser.
• Read the following text.
• Answer the multiple-choice questions about it and choose the correct answer: A, B, C or D.
• Place a X in the appropriate box on your Answer Sheet.

Janice’s blog
Well, today has been an action-filled day. I didn’t get up until late
because I was finalising the details for today’s concert with the
band Liquid Movement last night. Sarah and Tom were round
and after we’d finished working we opened a bottle of red wine
and had a bit of chat. I did offer to put them up for the night, but
they were anxious to get home to feed their cat. Finally I got to
bed at around two in the morning.

Though the concert did not start until eight I was at the venue by
six. Fortunately nearly everything went smoothly. I only had one
small fruitless argument with the security man from the building, Mr Dern. It seemed to me that he was
a bit too heavy-handed with the guests; there seemed no reason as far as I could see why they should
turn off their mobile phones. The concert started on time and everybody seemed to be having fun.

At the end of the concert, everybody left quietly. There was a small party in the room behind the stage
with the five members of the band. Sarah, Tom, Isabel and Noah (the latter two had actually missed the
concert) were also there and we all agreed that things had gone well. The gig had also made a profit and
we certainly wanted to invite the band back again to play in the town. Finally, the band members left in
their van with all their stuff, leaving the rest of us to party on.

The five of us agreed that we would go back and have a drink at Tom and Sarah’s flat. It wasn’t far as
we only needed to cross the town square and take one street after that. We had just left the building
at around two in the morning, having said good-bye to a very abrupt and rude Mr Dern, when we were
stopped by two police officers. They demanded identity from all of us. It was the last thing that we were
expecting.

Well, fortunately all of us except poor Isabel were carrying some form of identity. I thought it didn’t matter
too much, but the police insisted on taking Isabel to the police station. We couldn’t work out why and we
all started arguing with the two officers. Finally, something snapped in Noah and he lost his temper and
swore at them, with the result that he was arrested too.

Isabel and Noah were taken off to a police van which had arrived. I immediately used my mobile to
phone a lawyer friend of mine, forgetting that it was now the middle of the night. She reluctantly agreed
to drive down to the police station. We then went to inform Isabel’s parents about what had happed. We
didn’t know where Noah’s family lived. Finally I said goodnight to Sarah and Tom and came home to
write this blog.
