Universal Design for Learning (UDL) With creating a video with iMovie software, students have multiple
means of using the available tools to adjust an assignment to their needs or wants. Students can choose to
embed videos, pictures, and music into movies to help students express their ideas and information in a
varied and interesting way that helps them engage more fully with a topic. The use of text and audio can help
students with visual or hearing impairments create content suited to their needs as well.
Lesson idea implementation: Students will watch a short movie on iMovie in class on Dr. Michael Luther King
Jr, created by the teacher. The video will include a short video clip with direct audio from Dr. King, his
ideologies, and his effects on the world. Students will be given a list of important historical figures from the
previous in class lessons, and told to choose one to create a video on. Students will do their own research on
their chosen historical figure, using approved research websites.

Students will be walked through the different tools of iMovie, and shown how to put together aspects of the
video step by step, allowing them to then edit and add parts until the video depicts their research info in a
way that is interesting and fun for them. Students will receive help from the teacher to clean and organize
product so it fits the student’s wishes and the desired curriculum. Students will then present their product to
the class, and answer questions about the presentation as a classroom expert on the topic.
Importance of technology: Multimedia is a tool that is not only becoming a more and more widely used tool
in educational settings, it is becoming a vital tool to deliver information and further learning. Without a
variety in the delivery of information, keeping a student’s attention and interest in difficult topics can be
difficult. The current generation of students will also not only utilize technology throughout their educational
career, but also beyond, in just about every career and workplace in their future. Research tactics are vital in
life, as well as education, and the earlier students can learn and become proficient in researching techniques.
Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When accessing or publishing information online, a breach in privacy is
always a danger. In order to best protect students from strangers and dangers online, educating students on

why they need to be careful and exactly how they can protect themselves is vital. Students need to know
what information not to give out and how to safely interact with internet presences, if at all. Parents of
students will also be educated about the precautions and steps that will be taken to keep students and their
privacy safe, as well as sign waivers to give permission to students to access the internet in the classroom.
Reflective Practice: Just as I felt more comfortable using technology after learning how to create a product
using iMovie, I want students to feel comfortable and excited about using technology in and out of the
classroom. I want to introduce several different types of technology so that students can have a repertoire to
choose from when creating new products for their own learning and presenting their research.
