It has at its basis the corresponding taro suits and Qabalahistic Worlds.

Step 1: Pick a Significator

(See AppendixA)

Step 2: Compose a Question

It is important for this reading that you do have a very specific question and that you care about it. Spend the time to contemplate
what you are going to ask.

Step 3: Decide what element your question belongs to:

Step 4: Shuffle and Cut Cards into 4 piles

Think of the question while shuffling. Do not cut the cards place
them face down in front of you. The cards will be cut into 4 piles
each one represents a letter of the Tetragramaton or 4 lettered
name of God and the corresponding elements & world.

Cut the deck in half trying to divide it evenly. Leaving a gap

larger than the width of your cards, put the top half to the right of
the bottom half. (two Piles)

Cut the right pile of cards in half. Place the top half to the right.

Cut the left pile of cards in half. Place the top half to the right in
the open space.. Flip the piles over, turning from horizontally to
reveal the bottom card which will be used in Step 5.

Step 5: Read top Cards from right to left.

Look at how they relate to each other and how the element of the card relates to the element of the position. (See Appendix B
Elemental dignities) then shuffle and cut into 4 piles.

Step 6: Find which of the four piles contains you Significator.

Be careful not to get them out of order.
If your Significator is not in the element of your question. the Golden Dawn would have you abandon the divination. I have found that
it does say you are barking up the wrong tree and the element of your Significator says why.

Step 7: Then do a 5 card reading using the cards surrounding your Significator
using elemental dignities.
Past for the Cards to the Left, Near future to the right of your Significator. Look at reversed cards separately from dignities. Look at
the set of 3 cards as if they were a single card.

Analyzing Elemental Dignities

• Which element is the strongest in the set of 3?
• Which Element is the weakest?
• Is there an excess of any element? (many cards in one suit)
• Is an element missing?
• Is the middle (principal) card active or passive?
• Is the middle card a Major, Minor, Court?

Step 8: Card counting if you are brave.

See the Opening of the Key document.

Appe ndix A; Sig nificators

A significator is a card selected to represent the querent (or object) of the reading. It is very common to select a significator from the
court cards. Here are a number of methods to do this.

Method 1: Astrological by Suit

(my favorate)
Select the suit based the element of your sun sign (or what ever astrological sign you most relate to). Select the rank based on age,
maturity, or the one you most relate to.

Suit Element Sun Sign

Wands Fire Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Cups Water Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.
Swords Air Libra, Aquarius, Gemini
Pentacles Earth Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo

Rank Age
Kings Men
Queens Women
Knight Young Men
Pages Young Women

Method 2: Golden Dawn Method

Tarot Divination pg 566

Suit Appearances
Wands Very fair haired & red haired persons with a fair complexion.
Cups Moderately fair persons.
Swords Generally, Dark persons.
Pentacles Very dark persons.

Rank Age
Kings Men
Queens Women
Princes Young Men
Princesses Young Women

Method 3: Pictorial Key to the Tarot

AN ANCIENT CELTIC METHOD OF DIVINATION
This mode of divination is the most suitable for obtaining an answer to a definite question. The Diviner first selects a card to represent
the person or, matter about which inquiry is made. This card is called the Significator. Should he wish to ascertain something in
connexion with himself he takes the one which corresponds to his personal description. A Knight should be chosen as the Significator
if the subject of inquiry is a man of forty years old and upward; a King should be chosen for any male who is under that age a Queen for
a woman who is over forty years and a Page for any female of less age.

The four Court Cards in Wands represent very fair people, with yellow or auburn hair, fair complexion and blue eyes. The Court
Cards in Cups signify people with light brown or dull fair hair and grey or blue eyes. Those in Swords stand for people having hazel or
grey eyes, dark brown hair and dull complexion. Lastly, the Court Cards in Pentacles are referred to persons with very dark brown or

black hair, dark eyes and sallow or swarthy complexions. These allocations are subject, however, to the following reserve, which will
prevent them being taken too conventionally. You can be guided on occasion by the known temperament of a person; one who is
exceedingly dark may be very energetic, and would be better represented by a Sword card than a Pentacle. On the other hand, a very
fair subject who is indolent and lethargic should be referred to Cups rather than to Wands.

Method 4: Crowley’s Book of Thoth

THE SIGNIFICATOR
1. Choose a card to represent the Querent, using your knowledge or judgment of his character rather than dwelling on his physical
characteristics.

Method 5: Astrological Sign

Find your birthday in the date range column.

January 20 to February 18 Aquarius King of Swords Star
February 19 to March 20 Pisces Knight of Cups Moon

Method 6: Major Arcana

1. Magician or High Priestess
2. Emperor or Empress
3. Justice – for Legal Matters

Method 7: Myers-Briggs Method

A new method for determining the significator has recently appeared. It is based on the Myers-Briggs personality typing. Each Court
card has a specific personality type assigned to it, based on the traditional meanings of the card.
