Instrumentation Inspection Procedure

1. Cold Loop checking

a. Installation of instrumentation in accordance with design documents
b. Continuity tests to verify cable routing
c. Check availability and performance of utility supply systems (electrical, pneumatic)
d. Verification of cable terminations in accordance with design documents
e. Verification of proper grounding of shielded cables
f. Testing of pneumatic instrument lines for leaks
2. Hot loop test (by simulation of the automation controller (PLC, DCS) )
a. Activate primary devices
b. Check on the functional performance of alarm, safety and sequence systems
c. Any other check required to have the instrumentation working properly.
d. Check for correct action and synchronization of all the components
e. Instrument test procedures implementation
f. Zero checking/calibration under operating pressure
g. Tuning of control loops

h. Emergency repair and modifications

i.

Procedure Operational
3. CONTROL VALVE/POSITIONER

a. Apply Air Instrument for Supply pressure to Regulator

b. Adjust Regulator until pressure as per datasheet for Supply Pressure to

POSITIONER

c. Set Loop Calibrator to provide current Input Signal (4-20mA) to POSITIONER

d. Verify Current Input Signal to Stroke test (Low Travel – Mid Travel - High Travel )

e. See Percentage of Actual Travel (0-100%) to match with Current input Signal (4-
20mA) based on table bellow

4. Basic procedure for calibration

a. Isolate the Pressure Transmitter from the Process.

b. Slowly open the vent plug and the vent valve to release the pressure.

c. Connect the multimeter with the transmitter and ensure that output is 4ma when 0
pressures is applied.

d. Connect the hand held test pump (pressure source) to the transmitter.
e. Ensure there is no leak.

f. Apply pressure range at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% and check there is any error.

g. If there is any error calibration should be done.

4. Electrical Inspection Procedure

a. Insulation resistance testing of electrical equipment, to be done prior to terminations
(power cables)
b. Checkout and verification of electrical control circuitry through functional testing
c. Calibration of electrical relays and meters
d. Checkout and trip check tests of switchgear, motor control centers, and molded case
breakers
e. Inspection and testing of motor control centers and switchgear
f. Verification of cable terminations in accordance with design documents
