EPGP 11, Section A

Case Assignment: The Case Assignment has two parts- Part A and Part B as elaborated below.
Part A requires your group to analyze the case assigned (Amazon or PHS based on the
assignment sheet uploaded in Moodle) and review the group report assigned to you (based on the
group reports assigned for you to review after all the submissions).

Objective: To extend the concepts learnt and apply those on the case facts to answer the
questions posed. Note: It is expected that the groups will not merely be reporting the facts in the
case but analyze and extend the learnings of the CIM course).

Instructions

Part A:

The groups will answer the corresponding questions for the case assigned as mentioned below.
The case analysis needs to be thorough using the concepts and framework learnt in the class
and should be submitted by the deadline, as will be announced.

 The report needs to specify the following:

a) Group Number
b) Case Analyzed
c) Contribution of each member in the group
d) Question wise responses
e) Summary of significant observations

 Final report should be Times New Roman, 12 font-size, No page limit

Amazon Case:

QA1: How did the Amazon.com business model evolve from the company’s launch?
QA2: What role did IS play in the company’s strategy and the capabilities it built to execute
strategy?
QA3: What do you think Amazon will look like 10 years from now?
QA4: If you were a traditional retailer, how would you respond to the threat from
Amazon?

Partners Health Care Case:

QPHS1: What are the challenges faced in establishing a decision support system to assist
health care providers in treating their patients?
QPHS2: From a project management perspective, which system deployment success factors
are in place and which factors appear to be absent?

 QPHS3: Is there anything noteworthy in the IS unit’s use of research and development
centers? Do these centers contribute to the initial success or to the ongoing value
of the LMR/CPOE investment?
QPHS4: What are the operational IT and MIS challenges posed by the systems now in place
for the following groups: PHS management; PHS Healthcare practitioners; Health
care practitioners and allied agencies who must interact with PHS; the PHS IS
organization

File Name should include the group no. and identifier of the project e.g., Group15_Amazon or
Group 15_PHS

Part B:

• Assessment of other group case analysis:

Each group will be assigned a fellow group report for assessment. The evaluator group will
assess the project and report on the following:
o What concepts were covered
o What learnings came out of the analysis
o What aspects were missed or not discussed
o Any justifications for missing/not discussing those
o Any other observations (including style and grammar of writing in case it is difficult to
follow etc.)

Note: Evaluation of Assignment and Review will be based on the use of concepts learned in the
course
(This component will carry Assignment marks)
