INTRODUCTION

An elevator or lift is a type of vertical transportation device that moves people or goods
between floors of a building, or other structure. Elevators are typically powered by electric
motors that drive traction cables and counterweight systems like a hoist, although some pump
hydraulic fluid to raise a cylindrical piston like a jack.

An elevator is any type of conveyor device used to lift materials in a continuous stream into
bins or silos. Several types exist, such as the chain and bucket elevator, grain auger screw
conveyor using the principle of Archimedes screw, or the chain and paddles or forks of hey
elevators.

LITERATURE STUDY OF FREIGHT ELEVATOR

• A freight elevator, or goods lift, is an elevator designed to carry goods, rather than
passengers.
• Freight elevators are typically larger and capable of carrying heavier loads than a passenger
elevator.
• Freight elevators have manually operated doors normally, and often have rugged interior
finishes to prevent damage while loading and unloading material in the cabin.
• Electric elevators are more energy efficient for the work of freight lifting.
• It designed to carry goods, rather than passengers.
• Freight elevators are generally required to display a written notice in the car that the use by
passengers is prohibited, though certain freight elevators allow dual use.
• Freight Elevators with counterweight are perfect suitable solution for the installations
where heavy and massive commodities/goods needed to transport vertically like work-
shops, show-room, industries etc.
• Freight or goods lift with counter weight are the installation which provide not only
balancing to the cabin but also reduce operating cost up to some extent.

CASE STUDY
FREIGHT ELEVATOR AT ANAAL HONDA SUPELA DURG

• These elevators are meant to carry goods, for Anaal Honda showroom this lift carries
up to 2 bike per service.
• The door is manually operated for entering the elevator and with the help of motor
the elevator moves up and down.
• This elevator doesn’t have any counter load and all its movement depends on its
capabilities of the motor itself.
• This elevator doesn’t have any safety barrier for protection against the wall so this
count as a drawback for the freight elevators
• Due to the openness of the elevator there are many chances of accident.
• Not everyone is allowed to use the elevator because of its safety problem only in
front of the authorized person the lift I used.
• Even the pulley system and its cable are thin that there may be future chance of
breaking, as the load calculation was one properly said by the concerned authority.
