C. Abstraction

Digestion is the process of breaking up and dissolving food so that it can be taken into the
blood to be used by the body.

The parts of the digestive tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large
intestines, rectum, and anus.

Digestive System has its accessory parts namely: salivary gland, liver, gall bladder, and
pancreas.

Guide question:

1. How do the digestive parts work together?

Digestive system starts with the mouth where the food will be chewed, through the help of the
tongue and the teeth, and also with the accessory gland which is the salivary gland to moisten the
food. The food will then pass through the esophagus where the process called peristalsis occurs.
The food will then pass through the stomach that produces gastric juices that help in the mixing
and breaking of food further. Final digestion happens in small intestine. The large intestine is
where the undigested food is temporarily stored. It reabsorbs most of the minerals and water. The
anus is the last part of the digestive system wherein it is the opening where waste come out the
body.
