Activity no.1 Investigating Momentum

Directions: Perform, observe and answer the following guide questions.

Procedure:

1. Place the block of wood about 10 cm from the foot of inclined plane.

2. Place the car from different initial distance (20 cm, 40 cm, 60 cm and 80 cm) of the inclined plane. Before placing the
car from different initial distances, always place the block of wood at 10 cm.

3. Measure how far the block of wood moved. Record this as the stopping distances.

4. Do steps 1, 2 and 3 , this time using heavy toy car(put a clay on the top of a car to have a heavy toy car). Record your
data in the table.

Guide Questions:
1. Did the two toy cars immediately stop as they hit the block of wood?___________________________
2. Describe the stopping distance where LIGHT toy car stops and HEAVY toy car stops.

3. What will happen to the velocity of the two toy cars as the point of release
increases?___________________________________________________________________

4. If momentum is a measure of how difficult an object to stop, which of the two cars had a greater
momentum for the same point of release?
___________________________________________________________________________

5. What do you think are the two factors that affect momentum?
