Engineering and Solid Mechanics

Assignment-03
1. A ball weight 120N rests in a right angled groove as shown, the side of the groove are
inclined to an angle of 30 and 60 degrees to horizontal. If all the surfaces are smooth,
then determine the reactions at A and C.

2. A circular roller of radius 5cm and of weight 100N rests on a smooth horizontal
surface and is held in position by an inclined bar AB of length 10cm as shown. A
horizontal force of 200N is acting at B. Find the tension in the bar AB and the vertical
reaction at C.

3. Two identical rollers, each of weight 1000N are supported by an inclined plane and a
vertical wall as shown. Find the reactions at the points of support A, B, C assume
surfaces are smooth.

4. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of reaction at the pin A and the
reaction of the rocker B on the beam.
5. Determine the components of the support reaction at the fixed support A on the
cantilever beam.

6. If the wheelbarrow and its contents have a mass of 60kg and centre of mass at G,
determine the magnitude of the resultant force which the man must exert of the two
handles in order to hold the wheelbarrow in equilibrium.

7. Determine the tension in the cable and the horizontal and vertical components of
reactions of the pin A. the pulley at D is frictionless and the cylinder weights 80lb.
8. Two crates, each of mass 350kg, are placed as shown on the bed of a 1400kg pick up
truck. Determine the reactions at each of the two rear wheels of A, front wheels B.

9. The bracket BCD hinged at C and attached to a control cable at B. For the loading
shown, determine the tension in the cable and reaction at C.

10. Determine the reaction at A and C when angle is 30 degrees
