TIPS AND TRICKS FOR TOP RANK
Many of the aspirants complete GPAT preparation without using proper tips and tricks

thereby experience odds in the results. A lot of competition is there among the aspirants

appearing in the GPAT which is slowly increasing from year to year.

Most of the aspirants who worked hard and expected a top rank in the exam are

surprisingly fell below the cut-off line and disqualified. This doesn’t mean that hard work

fails in the exam but it is not in the right direction. So success in GPAT is a vector unit – It

should have both magnitude and direction.

You should work hard on the right area which fetches you more score in GPAT but not on the

area which you are highly interested.

Let’s clarify the above statement.

Suppose you have more interest in learning drugs and their mechanisms and you spent

lot of your preparation in pharmacology and became strong in the pharmacology before

you attempt GPAT, still you may be disqualified.

This is an exam with collection of subjects but not only pharmacology. No doubt those

questions from pharmacology give you good score but you are losing more score from

other areas. So how you spend your time and how you allocate it for each subject is a key

factor in the success. Here we will present most successful strategies for getting a top

score in GPAT.

1. RELAX AND CALM YOUR MIND

The first step in preparation of any competitive exam is to relax and never get tensed

thinking of the exam and its results. A calm mind can grasp the concept quickly and store

it in the layers of the brain for a longer period. Never confused and worried by viewing

GPAT syllabus.

GPAT is an all India level exam and the aspirants appear for it all are equal. The questions

will be same for all, so if you have a tough question, it will also be tough for your fellow

aspirant.

So never think negative and be confident to breathe the winds of success. You can win the

exam whatever and wherever you are, if you follow a right strategy in your preparation.

2. DON’T BE OVERCONFIDENT

This is another side of the frame what we have discussed above. You should feel confident

to get a success in GPAT yet within the limits. Suppose to know how the questions are

asked previously, you have gone through few previous question papers and found very

simple questions.

For example, few questions in GPAT will be like

1. Captopril belongs to the category of…

2. Achiral amino acid is….

All these are very simple and straightforward and everybody can merely answer. But if you

bind with an illusion that GPAT is a very simple exam and you can easily get the top rank

with very little effort, again you can be below the cut-off marks after the declaration of

results.

Never come to the conclusion on the strength of the paper just by seeing few questions

as GPAT is a collection of questions from direct, logical and advanced levels. Even, the

strength of the paper is highly variable from year to year. So neither underestimate nor

overestimate the exam, but just do hard work with a right plan.

3. MAKE A PLAN

The secret behind each success story is a right plan. Plan is like a weapon which gives you

half of the success in your entire journey. Make a plan in a right way based on how many

subjects you can cover within a stipulated period of your preparation. Be realistic while

you make a plan and never overload your plan with lot of topics.

Suppose if you planned such that you will complete entire pharmaceutics in ten days

which is practically not possible, it may result in failure of plan and ultimately loss of your

preparation. Better, divide the entire topics into different modules and put the deadline

for completion of each module.

Suppose you have divided the entire subjects for GPAT in to three modules. In the first

module, you have to put those subjects which are important and take more time for

preparation. For example, subjects like pharmacology, pharmaceutics, organic chemistry

and analysis are logical, more scoring and even require more time for preparation.

So if you put all these in first module and complete before the deadline, you can easily

complete other modules which comparatively require less time. In the above table we

have given a sample of a ideal plan, but you can change the subjects in the each module

according to your convenience.

4. BE FLEXIBLE

We can plan our destination but not the exact result. Suppose you have planned well and

executed successfully to some extent but later due to some reasons you are not

completed the task within the time, then don’t worry and just re-plan your things from

that point and never lose your hope. No one is perfect even your plan. So sometimes it

may get breaks in the curve but don’t lose the plan. Work better such that you can restore

the breakpoints and your plan is again on the track.

Getting success without a plan is like a walking in a dark room for search of the door.

Sometimes you may get into the door but not always. So if you plan

GPAT is a composition of all the subjects each with variable weightage. So don’t stick to a

particular subject and spend long time on it neglecting other subjects. You should give

proper balance to every subject according to its key role in the exam. As we discussed

earlier, you should study according to the exam not according to your interests.

6. VISUALIZE YOUR PREPARATION

Prepare your own short notes for each topic in a logical way. If possible prepare flow

charts or tables to cover the entire topic in nut shell. Don’t prepare lengthy notes which

take lot of time to study and difficult to remember. Instead, prepare short notes using

various symbols, shortcuts and any notations so that you can prepare as well as revise it

in short time.

Go for real exam. If you prepare the notes in a right way, it’s sure that you can visualize

even the exact position of the concept in your notes during the exam if you read a

question regarding the topic in the question paper.

7. PRACTICE ON THE PAPER

Reading may give short term memory but writing provides you a long term ever lasting

memory. Most of the concepts you may feel well familiar after reading but when you put

it on the paper for practice you can realize your mistakes. So practicing on the paper is

just like a seeing us in the mirror.

You can easily review your weak points and can work accordingly. The best practice is to

put the concept on the paper without seeing any text book or material and then compare

back it with that to realize your mistakes. As you practice more, you become the master

on the topic.

8. TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE

Preparation without any assessment is like a running in a desert. You may run

continuously but may not reach the goal. So, it is the best practice to attempt test papers

after completion of each topic to strengthen your preparation and even focus your weak

areas.

Even test papers simulate exam condition so that you can test your performance before

you attempt real exam. More the number of test papers you attempt more the gain you

have.

9. PRACTICE PREVIOUS PAPERS

Another best aspect in the preparation is to practice the previous year question papers so

that you can easily learn the exam pattern and know the key areas in various subjects.

Every question in GPAT will have high importance either clinically or industrially. So get

the answers for each question and expand your knowledge by studying all the concepts

behind the question.

But never be discouraged if you see a tough question in these papers from the topic you

have already prepared. Keep this fact in your mind that all questions are not of academic

level but few questions may be designed in advanced level. Don’t over think of these

questions but just do the best with normal questions. You can surely get the best score.

10. REVISE YOUR PREPARATION

Concepts are of two types volatile and non-volatile. Sometimes you can remember the
concept very easily and you never forget it anytime, so it non-volatile. But few concepts
require logic or even memory which are volatile and if not revised at proper time they
may be evaporated form your brain.
For example, while you study tablets you can easily remember that tablets can be
prepared by dry granulation and wet granulation but you may not remember the
ingredients used in each technique for a longer time. So to catch the volatile concept and
keep it still in your brain you should revise the concept regularly. Allot some time in your
plan for revision of the topics you completed. Revision makes you feel more confident in
topic.
