DIGITAL SELF

Humans have their different way of living in day-to-day basis. As they perform their

lifestyle, technology takes a big part on it. Rampant usage of technology and emergence of

internet became popular at this time, that causes their way of thinking to become distinctive. You

were influence by technology specifically internet and social media, and this version of yourself

is known as “Digital Self”.

People always say the cliché “kung ano ang puno siyang bunga” which explains that you

are the same as your parents but in fact, parents have a big percentage of influencing us for what

we need to become just like the internet. What we see, read, and hear online may affect the way

we think. Even the people that we are interacting to can give us the impulse to think differently

the way we think before. Interacting is not just about face to face interaction, people can also

interact by simply chatting. But how do people interact with someone they don’t know

personally? I think we all have this kind of friend that we met online, talk and share random stuff

that we want to share with them just because we’re comfortable talking to him/her. This kind of

friend is called “online friend”. You can consider this online friend as a friend but he/she is not

the same as your friend that you can talk with as deep as you want to because of having lack of

presence and sometimes, trust for them. But don’t you have a gut to ask him/her why he/she

talked to you? Your self-presentation may be the reason why. For example, you love to watch

and share makeup tutorials. While watching online, there’s notification that popped on your

phone sending you a friend request. You checked her profile and saw that she is a makeup

enthusiast. Also, one example of self-presentation is when you share a biblical quotation on your

timeline, people easily think that you are a spiritual person. This is how you can fool other
people and can be fooled by others. Social media is just a platform where you can say whatever

you want to say and give information about you that you only want them to know. It may be the

way for you to know some information about someone but it is not that reliable to be your basis

to say that this person is like this or that. You just saw a part of a whole of her personality. It is

like a thin mask that you need to pill to see the true and vivid characteristic of someone because

their true self was hidden. For me, interaction is the key for you to know someone deeply.

Interaction may be your solid basis to say that she’s like this because you interacted with her.

You observe the way she moves and talks but what you see does not define her; physical traits

are just a human skin. Her blood is what you need to explore; her mentality is what you need to

understand more.

Internet is a tool to help people explore things that they don’t know about themselves and

search to have a wider knowledge. It may give you a positive effect or a negative one. It may

influence you to reach your better version of yourself or drag you to the worse version of yours.

Don’t let Internet push you to be different on how you know yourself. Instead, use internet to

help you mold your true self. Internet expose you to people but can’t tell you the real one that’s

why people shouldn’t trust Internet because just like what Abraham Lincoln said, “The trouble

with information on the Internet is that you can never know if they are genuine”.
LEARNING TO BE A BETTER STUDENT

A human is not just a human. We have different roles in different groups that we belong.

Anyone can be a mother, daughter, friend, sibling, partner, worker, citizen and a student.

Different roles in different groups have a different responsibility that everyone needs to fulfill.

Being a student is not just about going to school, sit on your assigned chair, listen to

whoever talk in front of the class, pick up your things, go home as early as you can and sleep.

Being a student is harder than what parents think about it. Students need to manage their time as

organize as it can be because from doing school stuff, we also ought to do household chores and

talking to a friend then go back doing school stuff. It is such a real struggle for a student to do

different tasks at the same time, that’s why students really need to know how to think the best

way of learning. Different student has different way of learning. There are some that learn things

better in a quiet place, some learn while eating peanuts and other snacks, and some learn while

listening to music. There are also some that learns faster when they see things or graphs. Every

student needs to discover his/her best way of learning for him/her to learn things easier because

the easier you can do things the faster it can be. Finding the right strategy of learning that fits you

helps you to be a better student.

Finding the right strategy of learning is one way to be a better student, the other one is to

manage your time properly. Again, you are not just a student; you also have the different roles

that were said above. Managing time can help you to give more time on studying topics that you

need to study. It is better to manage your time properly than to cram things in a minute.

Cramming does not always work. It only gives you pressure to finish tasks within a couple of

hour, and I think it is not good for oneself.

Also, when you are a better student, you are able to know what you can do and what you

can do more because you are able to reach the highest capacity of your ability and use it to do

tasks. You are able to effectively do things base on your strength as a student and don’t worry for

what might happen because you know that you do what a better student is doing.

Being a better student is not just about being a student. It is harder than anyone can think

about a student but it is also priceless. The knowledge that you learn is priceless, the self-esteem

that you earn learning is priceless, and the spiritual reward you gain is priceless. That’s why they

said that “Study hard, do good and the good life will follow”.
