SCHOOLS CURRENT SITUATION

A. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Lantapan National High School is a public secondary school located at Balila, Lantapan,
Bukidnon. It was formerly Central Mindanao University (CMU) Barrio Development School (BDS)
converted into a National High School in 2000. It has a total land area of 1.09 hectare donated by Msgr.
Eriberto Balindres to Central Mindanao University and later to the Department of Education, Culture
and Sports.

Lantapan National High School is a growing school. The problem on school site did not affect the
influx of numerous students from different barangays. At present, the school has an enrolment of 1,777
students with 63 plantilla item teachers. Majority of students are commuters and are children of small
farms, DOLE and MKAVI laborers. About two-thirds of the total school population is Cebuano while the
rest are Talaandigs, Higaonons, Bukidnon and Boholano.

The school offers the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum. By June 2016, Grade 11 in Senior High
School will start. With the growing population, there is always a need of additional textbooks in all
subject areas. On the average, textbook student ratio is 1:1 in Grade 9 and 10, while Grade 7 has only a
1:1 ration for Filipino and Araling Panlipunan, other subjects don’t have textbooks. Grade 8 textbook
ratio is 1:2.

In our desire to attain quality education, the school tried to establish good rapport with the
stakeholders: the PTA, DOLE, MKAVI, and LGU. They were tapped as our partners and were recognized
during PTA assemblies, quarterly convocation program and parent’s day. However, quality education
could not be achieved if teachers are not competent because they could not teach what they don’t
have. They need to master the skills in the learning competencies. To improve their teaching skills,
regular observation and school-based in-service trainings are conducted. Teachers are also encourage to
enroll in post graduate studies to upgrade their professional growth.

B. CURRICULUM

The school offers the K to 12 Curriculum or the Enhanced basic Education Program. Our present

the learners.

students will meet twice a week to study pre-assigned activities by the teacher.

The Adopt-a-Student Project aims of reducing drop-out rate and encouraging deserving students
to pursue their secondary education via free school supplies (bags, pencils, ballpens, etc.) from
identified donors from the business sector, NGOs and other philanthropic hearted people of the
community.

The School- Based Training Program (SBTP) aims to improve instructions in all year levels
through a school-based in-service training focusing on teaching strategies and approaches, classroom
management, use of instructional materials, action research and new teaching innovations.
Furthermore, utilization of instructional materials, textbooks, laboratory equipment, apparatuses, tools
and other teaching aides are the main concern of this program.

To ensure increase of students’ academic performance, remedial interventions are an important

component of this plan like, Reading Program which is the priority among others. Class Enhancement

Though with these constraints, the school MOOE, the LGUs, stakeholders can be a great help to
cater such budgetary requirement in order to post through the three-year developmental plan of the
