Luis: Good morning miss, good morning class, today we’re going to talk about Natural

disaster in Chile
But what is a natural disaster? A natural disaster is a hazard event of a natural
phenomena that causes great economic and human losses.
Those can be geological like ………. or meteorological like
okay but Why we’re going’ to talk about it? why it’s important? ; Because Chile is a
country with many natural risk, actually Chile is classified as a vulnerable country
according to the Convention on Climate Change due to its geological characteristics that
make Chile vulnerable to natural phenomena and climate change.
so today we're going’ to talk about Natural Disasters but most important were going
to learn what to do in order to stay safe in case of natural disaster.
First of all, make an emergency plan in 5 steps
Make a list with the family group information and emergency contacts
Identify risks where you live
Define safety zones, meeting point and escape routes.
Define roles during an emergency
Assemble an emergency kit, how to Assemble an emergency kit?
pack in a backpack the following, Water, food, first aid kit, sleeping bag, a change of
clothes, Radio and cell phone, flashlights and batteries, multi-purpose tool, matches,
whistle, toiletries, important documents and cash.

Earthquakes
In Chile an Earthquake is a violent shaking of the ground caused by earth's plates shock or
by volcanic activity that reaches 7 degrees on the Richter scale.
Chile is a country of frequent tremors because Chile is located in the convergence zone of
two plates.

Tsunami is a series of high-altitude sea waves produced by an earthquake, tectonic tidal
waves or a submarine volcanic eruption, which enter the continent at high speed
Volcanic eruption
Volcanic eruption, It's the expulsion of lava, steam, ash and gases through a volcano.
Throughout Chile is the Andes Mountain Range, which is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire,
the largest volcanic chain on the planet.

-Blizzard is a violent snowstorm with high winds and low visibility.
-Frost is the entry of a cold air mass due to a drastic decrease in temperature, which
cause significant losses to the agricultural sector
-Avalanche is a mass of snow, ice, and rocks that fall down the mountainside.

-Thunderstorms is a storm with thunder and lightning and also heavy rain or hail.
-Cyclone is a system of winds that rotates around a center of low atmospheric pressure
(cyclone hurricane and typhoon it's the same but the name depends on the geographical
area.)
-A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is touching the ground and a
cumulonimbus cloud, Waterspout is the same but it is generated on water,
