1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this specification is to aid in the selection of standard pipe supports, and is specific to
the detailed design scope of Rumaila Project, MWO only.

This specification shall be followed by all London based Pipe Support Engineers , Stress Engineers ,
Piping Engineers , Piping Designers and the Fabricator so that supports are selected consistently
over the project.

1.2 Scope
This specification covers all standard pipe supports to be used for Process and Utility Piping, and is
specific to the detailed design scope of Rumaila Project, MWO only. Exceptions are as stated below.

The following categories of supports are not included in the scope of this specification and are the
design responsibility of the FABRICATOR / SUPPLIER.

• Temporary supports for fabrication, installation and maintenance.

• Supports in proprietary package items of equipment and piping.

• Supports for Instrument control piping or tubing after the first piping block valve.

The following categories of supports are not included in the scope of this specification and are the
design responsibility of the Civil and Structural Group.

• Non standard structural support members and support for underground piping systems.

• Supports for Electrical and Instrumentation cable trays.

The following categories of supports are not included in the scope of this specification and are the
design responsibility of the Pipelines Group.

• Supports for pipelines.

The FABRICATOR / SUPPLIER must take account of all design considerations set out within this
specification, the Piping Support Design Criteria 00102W-C-G0-G000-PE-CRT-0003 and Pipe
Fabrication and Installation Specification 00102W-C-G0-G000-PE-SPC-0002.

1.3 Distribution and intended audience

Unless otherwise authorised by the COMPANY, the distribution of this document is confined to
COMPANY and its authorised Contractors and Suppliers only.

2. DEFINITIONS, ACRONYMS AND ABBREVI ATI ONS

2.1 General definitions

COMPANY - means BP Iraq NV

PROJECT - means the Rumaila Project, MWO.

CONTRACT - shall mean the formal agreement between CLIENT and CONTRACTOR.

CONTRACTOR - shall mean WorleyParsons, contracted to the COMPANY to carry out the agreed

WORK.

FABRICATOR - shall mean fabrication contractor and installation contractor, contracted to the
COMPANY to carry out the agreed WORK.

SUPPLIER – Party which manufactures or supplies equipment services to perform the duties

specified by the CONTRACTOR

WORK - means all and any of the works and/or services specified in the CONTRACT.

SHALL and MUST - indicate mandatory requirements.

SHOULD - indicate that a provision is not mandatory, but recommended as good practice.

3. GENERAL NOTES

1. All Dimensions and Elevations are to be in millimetres (mm), loads to be in Newtons (N)
or kiloNewtons (kN) unless noted otherwise.

2. All Welds to Pipe Support Frameworks to be 6mm fillet weld unless otherwise noted.

3. All weld sizes are specified using leg length dimensions unless noted otherwise.

4. For welded attachments to pipe work, maximum weld size must be the lesser of 0.7 x wall
thickness of pipe or 6mm continuous fillet weld.

5. All dissimilar welds to be carried out using appropriate electrodes and to ‘Company’
approved procedures.

6. All welded attachments to pipe work must be of same material as parent pipe unless
otherwise stated.

7. No support or attachment shall be welded to a pipe which has been subjected to

P.W.H.T. (Post Weld Heat treatment)

8. All weep holes to be 6mm Diameter and sealed with mastic after fabrication and testing.

9. All bolting to be as per project specifications.

10. All bolt holes in structural sections to be drilled to standard back marks and cross centres
unless otherwise noted on Pipe Support Detail. All bolt / U strap holes to be drilled on
site.

11. Field/Fabrication shop is to determine length of bolts; bolts shall protrude 3 mm outside of
nut.

12. All set screw, bolts, nuts, and locknuts to be Grade 8.8 to Document No. 0102W-C-G0-
G000-PE-CRT-0003 ref Appendix 1 and para 4.4

13. All threads shall be metric “right handed”, unless otherwise specified.

14. All washers to be normal Form E (Table 1) to BS 4320. Tapered washers to be supplied
where bolting to tapered flanged section are being used.

15. All Bolts and set screws to be supplied c/w nut, locknut and 2 flat washers.

16. Hollow support sections shall be blanked off to prevent the ingress of moisture. Vent
holes provided for closed welded sections shall be plugged with mastic after fabrication.

17. Finishing / Painting of all catalogue items (including nuts, bolts and washers) shall be in
accordance with the ‘specification for protective paint and coatings ’ Document No.
