UREA Co2 QCNRV (Extraction Check Valve) Problem

1st Challenge: QCNRV working

2nd Challenge: QCNRV response during Co2 Compressor trip.

1st challenge
We received QCNRC valve and actuator in separate box, during installation we find that the actuator
linking shaft (output Shaft) damaged condition

We try to get linking Shaft (Output Shaft) from principal supplier ROTORK India. But after few weeks
they refuse to supply the Output shaft separately.
ROTORK India offer to replace new Actuator. Finally we buy a new actuator from ROTORK India and
also request to provide the coupling along with the actuator.

But we fail to get the coupling from ROTORK India, because ROTORK India representative told us
that the FRIULCO Spa brought only the actuator from ROTORK and the coupling not supplied by
ROTORK.

We have only one drawing of QCNRV supplied by Ge Np

There is no separate drawing of coupling.

After getting the New Actuator (Rotork) at site we measure the dimension of both the side Actuator
as well as QCNRV valve side shaft.

Coupling Detail

Actuator side QCNRV side

After fabricating the coupling we installed the Actuator with new coupling.
Now we face a new problem, because as per GE logic the Solenoid Valve XV-1711 will be energized
when the Co2 Compressor logic Reset. Due to this logic the QCNRV ( Extraction Check Valve) open
after Reset the logic that’s why the turbine rotate reverse direction by MP Steam header pressure.

Now we talk to GE to modify the logic: XV-1711 SOV will be open when we are ready to take
Extraction from turbine.

But we fail to convince the GE team to change the logic because they told that this is proven logic.
During the discussion with GE we understand if this logic is proven then there is any other
arrangement which is missing. We find that we have no separate drawing only a single drawing we
have the FRIULCO Spa , but in this is GAD only so we talk to GE to provide the coupling.

But after few days GE told us that FRIULCO Spa not support the GE therefore GE offer us to buy a
complete QCNRV.

All of sudden during discussion we think may be its split type coupling.

The first proto type coupling I draw on paper cup

This type of coupling is called LOVE JAW COUPLING

But this coupling not exactly same because we want when the SOV energized at that time valve
flapper become free and when the Compressor trip flapper should be close very quickly as soon as
possible with the help of Actuator.
2nd Challenge: QCNRV response during Co2 Compressor trip.

Before startup we insure the working of QCNRV check by open the end flange our observasion

 Valve flaper free after Compressor Reset.

 Valver flaper quick close when the Compressor Trip.

FINALY WE ACHIVE THE SUCCESS WITH OUR IN-HOUSE EFFORT
