Q: How does it work and when can I get started recognizing my colleagues?
A: BE BRILLIANT puts the power of recognition at your fingertips by providing you with a
dynamic, web-based vehicle for timely, personal and meaningful acknowledgement, anytime,
anywhere. When you observe colleagues demonstrating the HARMAN values, you can
nominate them through the BE BRILLIANT website or on the mobile app.
The program offers multiple award levels ranging from a simple “thank you” to a variety of
point-based awards designed to recognize a range of contributions. Recognition can be given to
an individual and/or team.
Recipients can conveniently redeem point-based awards from a global rewards network which
offers a vast number of merchandise, gift card and charitable donation options.
Q: Who is eligible to participate in BE BRILLIANT?
A: All employees who are on the HARMAN payroll are eligible to participate in the BE
BRILLIANT program. The global reach of BE BRILLIANT enables employees to nominate
colleagues cross-functionally and worldwide, including their peers, direct/indirect reports and
managers.
To receive recognition awards, employees must be employed by the company at the time the
award is approved and distributed.
A: Yes, employees at manufacturing sites will receive information about how to access the BE
BRILLIANT website and mobile application.
A: All eligible employees will need to login by using a username and password.
If you don’t know your Employee ID Number, there are various places where you can find it.
For example, it can be found on your Earnings Statement, Employee Card, or Badge Card. If
you’re unable to locate your Employee ID, please reach out to your local HR representative for
assistance.
After logging in the first time, all employees will have the opportunity to change their password.
Their username will remain the same. Username / password entry is required to log in to both
the website and mobile app every time.
Q: Why is single sign-on (SSO) not enabled for BE BRILLIANT?
A: SSO is not enabled since not all employees have a secure active HARMAN e-mail address.
To ensure all eligible employees have access to this program the best alternative was to use a
username and password for both the website and mobile app.
A: Employees can recognize each other often. Focus on actions, results and contributions that
reflect HARMAN’s core values and support our business success. Think about how your team
members have gone above and beyond in demonstrating our core values in their daily activities
or large-scale projects. Did somebody collaborate meaningfully on a recent project? Did a co-
worker exceed your expectations by sharing an innovative idea? You can start recognizing your
colleagues for their positive contributions today!
A: The BE BRILLIANT system offers two approaches to consider when recognizing a colleague.
The first option is the “eThanks” award to share an expression of appreciation without any
point value. Presenting a colleague with a formal message of appreciation through the BE
BRILLIANT system allows many others to view and acknowledge their valuable contributions.
The second approach for recognition is to select from a range of point-based awards to
acknowledge more significant contributions. These awards are redeemable for country-specific
gift cards or merchandise. Each award tier in the BE BRILLIANT program offers consecutively
higher points for corresponding achievements and contributions. The exact monetary value of
the points varies by country due to currency and cost of living differences, but awards are
calibrated to be of similar economic redemption value across the globe.
A: BE BRILLIANT’s built-in Award Advisor guides nominators through a few short questions
and then suggests an appropriate award level based on a structured set of guidelines.

Nominations can be approved, modified or not approved by any manager in the approval chain.
Nominators will be notified if their nomination has been approved, modified or not approved at
any point in the approval chain. Approvers should plan to approve, modify or not approve
nominations within 48 hours of receiving the request.
Q: Are awarded points taxable income?
A: Tax implications vary by country. When an employee is awarded points, the applicable value
of the points is considered taxable income to the recipient. The value of the award will be
reflected as income in the employee’s earnings statement; however, the amount will be
"grossed up" to account for taxes payable as a result of the award. If you have questions about
how the points will affect your income, please reach out to your local HR contact.
A: Yes, occasionally, more exceptional contributions will be made by individuals and/or teams
at HARMAN that warrant more significant awards that are issued as cash rather than points.
Recognition for these types of contributions is also administered though the BE BRILLIANT
program. Managers with one or more direct reports are eligible to nominate employees for
cash awards. Cash awards require the approval of the CHRO and applicable EC member. All
employees are eligible to receive cash awards.
Managers are also eligible to nominate employees for the Annual CEO’s Award. The annual
nomination and approval chain processes for the CEO’s Award will be managed outside of the
BE BRILLIANT tool through a selection committee.
Q: How will I know when I have been recognized?
A: Recognition recipients receive an email notification that includes a personal message from
the nominator. Notifications are also sent to the mobile app.
If your award includes a point value, you can redeem it immediately for an item or gift card
from the BE BRILLIANT website or mobile app; or you can bank your award points and use
them at a later time.
A: Points are valid as long as the employee is active. Points must be redeemed before an
employee leaves the company.
A: Yes, there will be recorded WebEx training sessions for both employees and managers to
learn more about the tool’s functionality. These recordings will be available on the Global
Rewards page on the HARMAN Hub.
Q: How does HARMAN ensure that recognition is given fairly and appropriately?
A: Award approvals, email notifications and comprehensive reporting tools give managers
control and visibility and allow them to monitor the nominations and recognition activity
happening within their teams. Audits are also conducted and reviewed frequently.
