INVOCATION
INTRODUCTION In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW

God of grace, you have given us minds to know you, hearts to love you,
and voices to sing your praise. Fill us with your Spirit, that we may
celebrate your glory and worship you in spirit and truth, through Jesus
Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN I will not execute my fierce anger;
I will not again destroy Ephraim;
FIRST READING: Hosea 11:1-11 for I am God and no mortal,

Hosea compares God’s love for Israel to the love parents have for their 10

SECOND READING: Colossians 3:1-11

Life in Christ includes a radical reorientation of our values. Just as the
newly baptized shed their old clothes in order to put on new garments, so
Christians are called to let go of greed and take hold of a life shaped by
God’s love in Christ.
GOSPEL: Luke 12:13-21
As the Gospel is announced, worshippers are invited to trace a cross upon
their forehead, then over their lips, and then over their hearts, silently
praying, “May the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ be ever on my mind, on
my lips, and in my heart.”

In God’s reign, the “rich will be sent away empty.” Jesus uses a parable to
warn against identifying the worth of one’s life with the value of one’s
possessions rather than one’s relationship with God.

Someone in the crowd said to [Jesus,] “Teacher, tell my brother to divide
the family inheritance with me.” 14But he said to him, “Friend, who set me
to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15And he said to them, “Take care! Be
on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in
the abundance of possessions.” 16Then he told them a parable: “The land of
a rich man produced abundantly. 17And he thought to himself, ‘What should
I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ 18Then he said, ‘I will do this: I
will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my
grain and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample
goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ 20But God said to
him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And
the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21So it is with those who
store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”

APOSTLES’ CREED
As they recite the creed, worshippers are invited to bow beginning with the
words “born of the virgin Mary,” until the words “he descended to the
dead.”
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at

CONFESSION OF SIN AND PROCLAMATION OF FORGIVENESS
Beloved in the Lord, let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of
one another.
Silence for reflection.
Most merciful God,
We confess that we have turned away from loving You, our neighbor,
and the world you cherish. We are truly sorry and humbly repent from
this way of death. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and
unknown, things we have done and things we have failed to do. Fill us
with your Spirit, uphold us, and lead us, so that we may live and serve
you in full, joyful life through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and
made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the
name of ☩ Jesus Christ I declare to you: God forgives you all your sins.

Let us pray. God of all creation, all you have made is good, and your love
endures forever. You bring forth bread from the earth and fruit from the
vine. Nourish us with the Body and Blood of Christ through these gifts, so
that we will love the world as you have loved us in Jesus Christ, our Savior
and Lord. Amen.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Worshippers are invited to bow with the consecration of the Lord’s body
and blood, each time the words “Do this for the remembrance of me,” are

Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory…
Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of all

to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and

LORD'S PRAYER
Risen Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us

INVITATION TO COMMUNION
All who want to die to themselves, pick up the cross, and live by the Holy
Spirit, come to the feast!
Lutherans believe, teach and confess that we receive the true Body and Blood
of Christ in Holy Communion. If you desire to pick up the cross and live in
Christ, we hope you will receive with us. Even if you do not feel prepared to
receive the sacrament today we hope you will join us at the table. Simply hold
your hands over your heart and the pastor will give you a blessing. Pastor will
be glad to discuss Holy Communion and Holy Baptism with you!

God our Father, with this bread of life and cup of salvation you have united

SENDING OF HOLY COMMUNION
O God of tender compassion, as you healed the sick and welcomed the
stranger, bless those who leave this assembly to share the gifts of this table
with our sisters and brothers who are sick/homebound/imprisoned. May
they be sustained by the love and prayers of this community, and by the
Bread of Life that satisfies all hunger, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
